Thread: wow...amazing shaving video!!!!!

I did it!

I assumed this video was running at 2x normal speed. Maybe it was not that fast, but I when I stepped out of the shower this morning and looked at the clock I thought, "I guess I'll have to skip this morning's shave." And then I remembered this:

So I thought, if that guy can do it in 7 minutes and 38 seconds, so can I! My only cheat was that I strapped my razor my usual 20 on linen and 50 on leather, and didn't include that in my timed run. Interestingly, I also ended up with three nicks, although they were so minor that aftershave and cold water rinse made them vanish.

My time was 8 minutes for two lathers, one straight shave with the grain, and one straight shave hybrid pass against the grain and across the grain. Who will join me in the 8 minute challenge?

Oh, and there was very little burn afterward. Not nearly as much as I expected anyway. It isn't a very close shave either, but it's actually quite nice and I arrived early to work!

So, I highly doubt the video was sped up. The pitch of his voice, the hiss of the background, etc. When he said "heiss", his vouce would have to have been very deep, and he would have to have said it slowly. Also, the baby that you hear in the background (or toddler, whatever) would have to have been in on it, as well. From the looks of the surroundings, these people don't appear to be the type who would get a big kick out of duping the entire world on youtube with his blazing fast shaving skills. Maybe so, but he doesn't seem to be the type who would have this as his priority.

His stropping would have been twice as slow. From the looks of it, his strop has been well used, so I doubt he's a slow stropper. I don't even think it's sped up to 1.25. What's hard to believe that this guy can shave this fast? Try it. You won't end up BBS, but then again, neither did he.

Also, his movements did not seem unnaturally jerky or strange. They seemed very fluid and natural to me. Just for reference, here's a video of a girl who danced to a song that was slowed down, then sped the video up so that she seemed to be dancing to the song in real time. The speed was doubled for the video:
