Thanks Bart,
It good to see that i'm not too far off. I use the crude back & forth strokes to speed things up at the start of the process too.
I think i've been raising too thick a slurry, so as a result of this should get a few more years out of my hone!
I still have the hone supported on the bench for the rough stuff, but once the bevel's set i like to hold the hone too. I find it's easier to maintain good contact whilst keeping the strokes light.
Cheers

Thanked: 1212It was a Silversteel Dovo with Ebony scales, sir Sidney.
thanks for watching.
Thank you for the encouragement, but please don't idolize me. That's completely not my trip. (It scares me a bit ) I'm only a "fanatic shaving nerd" (to paraphrase my adorable wife, who likes to tease me with my hobby)
Bart.

This method has been giving me the best straight edges I have seen so far. I purposely dulled three of my razors on glass already to get rid of the "shave ready" edge that came in the mail and then reset the bevel and keenness with this method. I am in love with my coticule now.
If you love your BBW, watch out, you may be horrified to find out you don't really need it.Last edited by Disburden; 05-05-2009 at 07:04 PM.

great video
great video and the other post is great also. I have a french natural hone that I will be trying this with.
Also Bart is not alone with this technique we all need to watch the first video of the Mastro Livi thread titled getting it sharp. He also uses this sroke technique and the set bevel and take edge off.
See what kind of company you keep Bart, Hard to be in better company than that.

I Wonder why there was so much debate over this method being valid or not when people like myself half used it to set their edges and then have gotten long lasting shaves off it the razor.
Isn't saying that enough to point out that it actually works?
