What are you working on?

I have seen cell rot begin within a month or so. I have an old training razor & it was clean but it wasn't 4-6 weeks & it began rusting.
That is why on that one Crandall Cutlery, the real clean blade i have had for quite some time, I was going to put in ivory so I decided to go with that as originally planned & put the other blade back in those scales because that blade isn't as nice & the scales are celluloid.

The ivory scales for my Ern Ator have been soaking in 3% hydrogen peroxide ever since around October 14th, for about 2 1/2 weeks now & they are looking better. I found stronger hydrogen peroxide but it was concentrated & used for hair dying & teeth whitening. I didn't want to mess with any of that.

This was when I unpinned it as ou all remember.

Whatever that wedge was, it was not good. It was all made from flat stock, no angle to it. I was making a wedge out of some Cerrobend so I was going to use the original for a template to drill my hole & the wedge disintegrated. It didn't matter, I drilled it okay w/o it.

Makes me wonder about any other plastic wedges in ivory scales.
This one will be going back together soon.

Got my tangs blued. Too light a tang-stamp on the Red Dog, but the Wester Bros had nice ones.

Steve, bright ivory scales are going to rock that razor.

Tom that rub-n-buff lit that tang up. Blued and silvered is awesome apparently.

Got these all pinned-up and the hones are next.
Bad pics, fingerprints, dust, tape residue. Nice, clean, and tight.
These smaller collars from Austin are a home-run. Easy-peasy! ;)
Both blades are 6/8+, thin and sweet. Factory grinding striations.

On Wester Bros. I have learned that they went to New York and marketed products made by their dad in Germany for the US market. Seems also the father was the Wester in Wester and Butz. I cannot imagine and find no evidence of Wester and Butz surviving WWII.

At any rate the Wester Bros were selling USA made stuff from the onset and at least through the war with their name on it.

No 'Anchor brand' and such.

This blade and another I have are stamped USA. Perhaps Union Cutlery or similar made it? Wish I knew.

Anyhoo, some hard to see old American steel. After honing, a light polish and into the rack! ;)

W&B near wedge, this blade was in decent shape but needed a bit of help. Saved original collars, sanded scales to 1200 and polished with Mothers. I I believe these would have been originally tortoise dyed horn, there is a dark spot at the pivot that wouldn't go away. They polished well and look great. Did a bit of work on the blade to remove hone marks at the spine and it's better but not the best. The rest of the blade was cleaned with white scotchbrite and mothers, this does not scratch or really produce any more shine than is already there. More or less just cleans and brings the brightness back. Attachment 277041

Needs some metal removed from below the spine and above the bevel.
Regrind, no matter how you do it.

Hell, Tuzi does it by hand sanding!
