What are you working on?

It is a nice razor Tom, and my favourite brand too.
I recently got a really great set of scales with a less than pristine blade in them. I may be able to do something with the blade later, but this blade has been waiting for a beauty set of scales for a while. I managed to get everything clean and pinned today.

It has sat for a good 6 or 7 years....unpinned.

Getting it here on the table is the biggest step. The rest will come easily when disappearing from relatives over the holidays!

Yes, superb razor, and Wolfpack did a restore on one of those for me that was unbelievable...from a rust infested, badly aged blade to pristine.

Never tried metal epoxy filler on the blade surface. I’d be wary of moisture getting in behind the epoxy and causing the rust you are trying to avoid.
Maybe consider some low temp solder and thermal paste?

AFAIK, only #67's (76's?) came in them. I forget. They accept a wide variety of blades, I have found!

Tom I had that 472 on stand by for some time. I was thinking it may have been a remanent set of scales from one of your famous sets of seven with all matching scales and different blades, but with a theme. Nice pair. I’m a sucker for a nice pair.

Yes, with 3 in those and a 4th set, I was headed toward another 7-day set.

I have no idea how much time you put into gathering scales Tom, but all those sets came together masterfully. I can understand why you are done with those projects.

These are the bone scales from that little French faux frameback with the pitted spine I posted about. The wedge was glued in with what turned out to be hide glue. Initially I couldn't them apart because of the glue. I soaked them in a strong solution of sodium percarbonate, and that did it -- I made a little plastic wedge and was able to push it between the wedge and the scales once the glue had softened (even water will soften hide glue after a couple of days).

But I can't get the scales clean. The sodium percarbonate didn't take out the gray smudge at the end of one of them, and Arm & Hammer peroxide toothpaste didn't and neither did ammonia. I won't put them in bleach because I don't want to weaken the bone.

I know some folks here do beautiful work in bone, but these are my first bone scales so I hope you'll advise me! What would you do? Stain them so the smudging is less noticeable?

Also -- I oil my blades against rust. Would you suggest I seal these or soak them in neatsfoot oil?
