I hadn't seen one of those gas masks since I left the Army. The thing really works. And the straw is cool. Sure helps when you need a drink. Used it many times. Too bad you don't have the hood that went with it, Bruce!
I spend some time on the buffer yesterday. No pics, sorry. Tried to get most of the pitting out of the E. Barberon razor. Got some out but some are deep! I didn't want to miss-shape the blade so I'm back to hand sanding now. This thing is going to need a lot of sanding to come clean. I will work on it off and on so do expect to see it soon.
Today I worked on the shelf/display thingy I made. Got it mounted to a backboard and sanded down. Then asked the wife about colors. She said to remove the backing and we will paint the back one color and the shelves another. Bummer! She knows best when it comes to color, so I will pull it off and put some paint on it next weekend.
Also today I honed up 5 razors and made a Jig to hold razors on my microscope. Holds them still and solid and it's at an angle so that the edge is flat for the scope. Here's a couple pics of the jig...

With the cheap low strength magnets I put in it, it holds the razor up even with the scales sticking straight out. But not so strong that I can't pull the blade out without pulling the jig out of the microscope.
Visiting my folks in AL. Daughter is having fun.
Found an old washita stone and have it soaking in degreaser. Probably a knife sharpening stone.
Same store had a couple interesting two component strops but they may have been a little expensive. Definitely needed cleaning and conditioning.
Red Imp with a Nick in the leather and linen? Component for $35
and a strop that said something like(
VERY hard to make out text)
GENUINE
??BROKEN SHELL??
Warranted
??????
??????
Numbered something like 9200CC at the bottom for $25.
Strops we're pretty nasty and needed cleaning. I would have to read up on strop cleaning if I had bought either of them.
I shy away from old strops. Yes, you can come out with something very nice, but my luck is not that good. My first two I bought were junk. Rub them with a finger and they started crumbling. :( I only buy vintage strops from folks here. Much safer. But I'm probably missing out on some good deals.
Making new scales, and cleaning up a Reynolds for MrZ
It had some clunky, homemade scales, n collars that looked horrible. Just something someone thew together, to keep it shaving.

They've been sanded to .090 thickness, for now. Tonite they will get beveled along the edge, n the first coat of Tru Oil.
I was planning on using Coyote wood, but its seems too brittle, once sanded thin enough for scales. So I chose Zebra wood instead.
Having a razor in Outbacks hands in like marking down the days until Christmas. You know something great is on the way!
Love the Zebrawood. Nice choice.
It even looks better, after the Tru Oil.

Should compliment the blade quite well.
