HAR! It's funny....Back then a slight turn of a screw would bring such delight....Had a screw-threaded barrel on the bottom of the steering column with the cable wrapped . 4 pulleys to run the steering cables on both sides aft and at the motor. Fred Fintstone!

Had a Firestone, too. A south bend, and a Wards sea king.
Few Johnson and Evinrudes. But as the saying goes...once yo go black, there's no turning back.

Mercury's are an enigma for me.
Never had an occasion to own one.
WITH exception of a few Mercruisers, which sucked.
Love the looks and ring of the old big and tall 2-stroke outboard ones. Guess those days are about gone.
They were nicknamed, " towers of power ". Inline 6 cyl's
See a few, but most are just wore out, or have been cobbled from others. But...they were awesome, had a distinct sound, and you could here them coming down the lake. Just adore the smell of a 2 stroke, in the morning when fishin. :tu
And then came along the 115 OMC.. Was a beast!
A friend had one on a 17 bass-boat and would scare me often!
