I finally finished the 2nd Torrey Tom included with the Japanese French Hide strop he sold me:

Both got Incudo Pearloid Acrylic scales: the black-patterned one got aluminum/steel hardware, and the honey-brown one on the right got brass. I finished them up on a Vermio for the black one, and on TC's Zulu Grey (in the background) for the one on the right. I will report on the shave tests in the honing forum tomorrow.

AA Ron, the razors are looking sharp. The Pearloid Acrylic is intriguing stuff. I’ll look for your post int the honing thread.
What is a Japanese French hide strop. That just sounds confusing. Is it a strop made in Japan from hides tanned in France?

Thanks, Shaun-My usual lousy pics don't do it justice. The black especially is just gorgeously patterned when polished depending on the angle. The strop is one Tom sold me months ago that my wife gave to Santa. It is an original NOS Certifyd shell with linen back made by Naomi San himself; he tossed in the Torrey blades as a bonus. Though one was literally coated with plastic that had once been oil, they cleaned up pretty well, and I am grateful for Tom's generosity. As I'm honing a lot of razors right now, I may have talked Santa into letting me have the strop early. I hope Tom doesn't mind me using his pics here:

The "French Hide" is just as fine and slick as cordovan, and probably tanned in similar fashion. Both those Torreys were finished with about 150 strokes each on it, and both tree-top my finest arm hairs silently, which usually means a fine shaving edge-we'll see tomorrow. It's amazing how fast I can go on it, it's just so slick. I'm saving this one for my finest finisher in the progression! (And the Razorfeld strop sock is protective and looks great too!).

If you only knew. One year for Christmas my brother and I got what we knew were BB guns. I guess we were about 11 and 14-you guys remember what a rite of passage that used to be. Anyway, we unwrapped them one day while our parents were still at work, loaded up, and used the sofa across the room in our big den as a bench rest to plink at those fragile glass ornament balls everyone used to have on the Christmas tree. The fun we had was almost worth the ass-whippin' we got.

Maybe "Santa" will whip me with my new strop lol!

I got my 1K wedge ready for a test shave tomorrow and was tired of honing. I recently purchased some of Outbacks favorite 3M marine and wanted to try it out on my Joseph with the eagle etch. I went NuFinish infomercial style and put a piece of tape down the middle of the blade and went at the toe with 0000 steel wool and little of the polish.. Nice! This blade probably won't see any sand paper.

Hopefully the images are clear enough, but it really cleaned it up nice.

When I opened it I immediately smelled ammonia and looked at the ingredients. This stuff is something called Booker's dip with an abrasive and chemicals to get it into paste form. Booker's dip (oleic acid and ammonia) is a solution used by Forensic firearm examiners to clean up corroded bullets and cartridge cases. It's not super aggressive, but good ventilation and gloves wouldn't be a bad idea.

Lots of creative spine-taping to get this shaving?

Yeah, I'll probably need some advice for honing this. I'm not planning on tackling it anytime soon. I just wanted to see what the 3M would do. I've got easier projects planned next. Also lots of honing practice.
