My wife is afraid of power tools. We did have a recent discussion on a kiln though. The thought being that she will use it for glass and I’ll use it for heat treat. Hobbies with shared equipment can be quite handy. A-A-Ron, I pretty sure that a lathe is a serious rabbit hole, I’m happy to watch and see where you two, or maybe three will go with this.
Well, since we had some substantial refunds from all the cancellations from our aborted trip to Japan to see our son, we did the deed. Drove over to the Woodcraft in Greenville to look at the Jet, but the owner's daughter, an experienced turner herself, very convincingly talked us into the Laguna 1216 Revo after spending the afternoon with us demoing the lathe and a bunch of tools and necessary accessories (they were pretty slow the Friday before the 4th). A 10% sale and some discounting on tool bundles helped seal the deal. Because she was VERY good at her job, she also talked us into some of their high-end gouges, chisels and skews, as well as a 100-grit wheel to sharpen them on. I also got a drill chuck attachment and Forstner bit so that I can do some shaving brushes.
We got some nice turning squares there, but I figure I'll practice on some el-cheapo 2x2 pine lumber over the weekend. Now to read some manuals and watch some videos before I even touch this thing lol! We also hope to take some of their classes soon. I'll post pics at some point if we actually make something that's not totally embarrassing.

That is so cool Aaron! (having a wife that likes tools that is) Don't forget to get a set of chucks for your lathe. the're a must for turning bowls (wish i had a set for mine!)

These showed up in the mail. They look good. The jimping looks pretty shallow to my eyes though, so I will grind them off and file in some of my own before heat treating. Also, I think that I will reshape three of the blades before heat treating as well. One will be left pretty much to the factory profile.
