A couple of nice razors for sure. After the die job that razor look brand new. And the pitting on the other one is not the spot ibwas wondering about. I dont think i would mess with the pits eather. Nice work gentlemen.

As I was straightening some warped horn scales a while ago I was thinking about this post. One of the sets that I was working on was nice and smooth before I heated them. After straightening the grain was clearly visible. This is 100+ year old horn though. Not sure if you’d get the same result from a fresh slab. Have you experimented with heating them up Shaun?
I agree Rez, seems a bit thin but I'm gonna go ahead. If they don't work then lesson learned. Maybe a scale shaped comb! Lol
BeJay, to be honest, not a dry heat. I do have a small oven in the shop. So if I get this concept right, I just bake them at a low heat, 200 for 15 minutes and them clamp them flat. If it raises the grain I will be quite happy. I have a set to make soon and I will run another round of experiments. I also bought some blonde hair bleach. My process will be a week in oven cleaner, wash and them into the hair bleach, wash then into the oven. I’m curious how this will all work out. Thanks for the input.
Some nice work and great outcomes there BeJay and Andrew. I like both those razors! Bejay the scales look fantastic. And Andrew I agree with how much you cleaned up and when to stop, especially with the thin ground ones. Leaving a bit of light pits is ok because integrity of the thin blade is key. Tom's right, just might be one of your best shavers. It sort of reminds me of an H.M. Christensen I cleaned up, did the best I could but had to go easy because it's so thin. So just a cleaning and light polish, some pits are there but that little razor shaves a real treat, sure 'nuff.
A heat lamp has worked for me, as a heat source .

Just playing around tonite. Have a shorty that Sharpton sent me awhile back, that needed some shoes.
So I reshaped some bakelite scales that were broken behind the pivot, sanded to 600, then steel wooled.
Dug through a few wedges, and found one that will need fitted to the scales, but works with the blade.
Just needs pinned, polished, and honed.

Lucky folks with a "work area!" I am at the kitchen table wishing for the 500sqFt i had!
Pinning is about all I can do at home and honing and wet sanding at the kitchen sink.
Still; it is a hobby that I am enjoying again! Hoping to make a better work space in the bedroom, have to hard surface the floors to make clean up easier. The carpet don't work for me.
This week is all about correcting the errors I made last week!:boohoo:
Enjoy!

I know how you feel my friend!
If you've ever noticed 99% of Every Pic I post has the same table as a background. Most everything is done right there and at the kitchen sink. I am blessed with having an attached one car garage but I have to cover my bike, chest freezer etc before I can use my buffer.
I have a shop to work in. I do my grinding, drilling, and buffing out there.
I have a nice workbench and a stool. It is a catch-all...Don't use it much.
Rest of my work in done on a thick paper towel on my desk pullout!
Been a few razors across it.
Honing and all!

No doubt!
Outback! Is that bunch of blades taped to the bubblewrap still the ones I sent you?
A few years ago? :D
One more done...from the Tadoo box. :nj

Jerry that has to be the tidiest to do box I have ever seen. Mine are all pinned to a bulletin board. Apparently organization is not my strong suit.
Yes sir.! What's left, from the others.
This shorty was one of them, and I still need toake scales for the Wosty, Damascus frameback

Amongst a bunch of others.
Happy to see them shave again, Brother!
(I 'overbought'! Imagine THAT!')
:tu
Is there some busted Herders I see?
I have the same scotch tape dispenser! :)
I am to the point I only buy razors for sympathy.
They have to be nice, however.
I have too many which need,,,,,er, extensive work.
A man can paint himself into a corner here...:roflmao
Sunday. That's the day! :deal:
:)
Mike, im trying to not go thru them so fast now days. I got a small box with junk razors not worth fixing too. I was doing 3 at a time. Now its one at a time and only when i get enough time to really work at it. Thats shorty dont look very short until you put it next to another. Nice job!
Still working on cutting up wood scale blanks for Tuzi. Hope to get them all cut this weekend. Then ill post up the lot. He will have enough for years of razors in my opinion.
My space for working is nice as far as room but its cold out there. I am a very orginized person. One of those folks that think everything has a place and thats where it WILL be! Icdont lose anything.
I need to get better at honing. Some days to goes great, other days i feel ive waisted hours and dont get anywhere.
Its all fun. Going to start selling off a few next month. Ive ran out of room on my wall display boards.
Same here, Jerry.
Working six days a week, only leaves a few hours each day for house and razor work. At least I don't have to mow the grass any more, and the mosquito's aren't a bother either. :roflmao
Sounds awesome, Jerry. You the man! Remember to keep plenty of wood for yourself, something to put a good dent in that to-do box, and then some.
I 100% support Outbacks idea of giving away scales in the monthly giveaway! I would probably sign up fake accounts just to get more entries for the give away. Ohhh geeze, I just revealed my plan. ugh
Wrapped up this Box Elder/Wenge brush and stand yesterday. In the nick of time too, as the lady is coming to pick it up for her husband tomorrow. I messed up a bit when I made the half circle for the forks to hold the brush. Made them slightly too wide, which made the hairs touch the base of the stand ever so slightly. Can't have that so I added some small piece's of the contrasting burl to the inside which raises the brush up a bit. Worked perfectly and I think the look is nice too.

Smart thinking on the brush stand. Adding a little visual detail that doubles up as a repair is as good as it gets.
:-)
Very nice, Andrew! Certain to be enjoyed! :tu
Handle and stand turned out beauty Andrew!
:tu
Nice, Andrew! That's a handsome brush and stand combo.
Thanks guys. Made this stand, and yet I still use my wire brush hanger I made from an old coat hanger. :rofl2:
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
