What are you working on?

Ditched all plans this evening to work on the scales for the Post Shear Co SR. i epoxied these over the weekend. Ziricote, white spacer, aluminum spacer, black liner. I dont remember the material widths but right now i have them sanded down to about 2.8 on the belt sander. Gonna do the rest by hand. I think I'm shooting for about 2.25 in the center, slightly tapered at the ends. This time i cut the aluminum right and had a new belt in the sander so the epoxy didn't melt mid grind and disassemble in my hands like the first time.

Sanding away on th JR diamond edge I almost walked away from..... I know, not sure why I did. But at least I came to my senses and went back and got it.

Working on a big old Puma from the 20's or 30's.
Did I say big? The top razor is a nice Gong 13/16+!

It is SO long that the only set of scales I had to fit it are these old aluminum ones. I am certain most scales like this were replacement scales. Lots of them are large so they will fit anything and I have seen LOTS with pivot holes drilled wonky, Someone drilled 2 holes in one of these!

A new product to me is these rosette collars from AJKeene.
Using the silver ones here will hide that other pin-hole.

Oh that's soooo cool Tom. Can't say I've seen a Puma that old. Is it 8/8??

Done sanding. Around 2.4 finished. Got the aluminum to peek out a little when viewed from the side.

No, but over 7/8 and close to 15/16. My favorite size!
I put a thread on 'razors' asking about age. Several popped-up!

So I am going at this set of scales with a progression of worn micromesh. The buffer will do a number, but it blows out the engraving.
Going down through all the grits and hand-polishing gives a better job, I think.

These new collars from Austin are neat! They come in silver and brass with undercollars. I polished one of each at the buffer with a pin-vise so I could show them as-polished. The top ones are polished, of course!:D

I will round-file the top pin holes to align more toward the middle (where they should be) going toward the tip a bit.
Then, file them to fit some of Babur's through-collars for undercollars at the top to take up slop (at right).
