This herder needs a little help. The blade doesn't center perfectly. I put a couple washers on one side and it helped, but it's not perfect. What I'd like to do is to send it to one of you guys to see what you do to fix the problem. Of course there are posts on this but I'm still having issues with this matter.
My care packages go out tomorrow, long overdue, some bog oak, maybe some other things I'll try to dig up.
You ever make anything with that Coolibah burl?

My first resto/rescale attempt:

Got this Griffon off ebay for real cheap. The scales were broken and there was a fair bit of pitting on the blade along with some scratches from, I assume, somebody's use of coarse grit paper to remove rust. Spent a fair bit of time hand sanding wet from 240 through 800 grit and then polishing with the buffing wheel. Some pitting remains but the scratches are gone.

First I made new scales from some cherry wood I had around and finished them with CA glue. I just didn't like the look of them so I decided to try making them out of G10. I picked out Jade Ghost for the color. My original intent was to polish the scales to a high luster but after sanding through 800 I really liked the matte finish so went with that. The wedge is a piece of Corian that matches the countertop in my shave den. G10 is some hard stuff to cut. I ended up doing most of the shaping on my 6x48 belt sander with an 80 grit belt.

Got my scales pretty much done. Worn Micromesh down through the grits, good as I want it. Getting all the scratches and divots out seems impossible without losing the details, so I polished them with Maas and a few coats of Renwax. I like the 'old bluish' finish on these!
I want it to look authentic as these scales and blade are old, they should look the part....
Besides, I am quite lazy! :D

Before I finished with them, I bolted up the bottom with the wedge in place and scotch-taped them together tightly near the top pin-holes. I then round-filed both holes at the same time toward the middle a bit as they had been mis-drilled and then drilled again too high back when.

I then filed them on a larger circle to the point where the collars lightly pressed-in. They look a bit funky, but the collars press through lightly and are solidly located in the new spot.

A DE blade protects the scales as I Dremel-drum sanded the collars down to the scales.
Were I doing this with something more 'breakable' I would have filled the voids and faux-pinhole with CA. I see no need to here.

With Babur's collars tightly installed, AJKenne's decorative rosettes will be installed on top. All will be aligned and the sins hidden! :D

Some more work to do on the tang and spine of the blade. Light sanding and polishing.
