Tom , probably not your case but for anyone attempting this, some Genevas/Gencos have plated tangs, chrome or nickel, I'm not sure.
Would need a good grind back to get blue to take.

Just finished up another cabbage cutter(AKA Frenchie). It's a nice heavy wedge that looks to be about 7/8. I got this one in fair condition and it had clearly been worked on before I got ahold of it. The sefrace was very uneven though, and it took some doing to smooth it out. I then spent a good amount of time on a slurried up Chosera 1k to correct the uneven beven. It eventually took a nice edge that was finished in the Nani 12k. I'm not crazy about the scales so they may be replaced at a later date(or not). Not sure it they're real or imitation ivory but they're definitely not the originals.

PS. It kind of looks like it has a chipped edge in the pic but that's my reflection on the bevel.

I would like to see that. I have an upcoming project involving paint and razors.

Well, I gave up on paint in the stamps on my Genco. Just too darn shallow..
I DID get a decent blue-job by lightly scuffing the tang sides with worn scotchbrite and trying again. Got an awesome job on the spine and nose! :D
5/8 Geneva scales with a 6/8 Genco blade. Trimmed the wedge. They are stuffed. Typical directional differences in the stripes from side-to side.
Not too bad, I reckon.

I do like darkened steel. It does show scratches fairly easily, so don't scratch it. ;-)

I didn't blue the blade faces. Blued spine, tang, and nose.

I guess the photo sort of looks like I did!

Slowly sanding this Palmera....doesn't appear to be any rust, and it doesn't feel like pitting...I'm wondering if either there was some type of etching (doubt it), or what the blade is potentially stained with, slowly coming out with the 800 grit, don't want to take off too much metal, will go to 2000 grit, then 3000 grit before too long.

edited to add: huh...just cleaned up a spot, and there was a trace of an etch on the blade face, can just see a bare trace of it...which then connects a pattern I just Googled...

Any suggestions what this is on the blade face? Just keep sanding away with the 800?
