Well, the ebony I am used to is a lot less impressive than plain oak in the strength department.
In fact, just recently I was looking at a handcrafted Japanese bokken (wooden practise sword) which was made from ebony.
List price about 1500$. According to the warning, it was not suitable for actual use as a practise sword because it would have a high risk of breaking upon impact.
I'm not denying it's beauty or hardness. But from my limited experience there is a whole range of woods that are stronger.
