Thanks all. I got a loupe Rez. Also got a USB microscope but I'm still having issues. I got a nice solid TNT going on this one then progressed. And the end product was just not right. Went back to the 4k and tried again and still no go after some stropping. It feels about right with a thumb pad test as Lynn does but just not quite there yet. Havent tried the shave test. I'll wait for morning for that. I aint giving up yet. If it was a smiling blade I might set it aside and try again in a few weeks as I'm NOT getting those at all yet, but a straight edge or close too straight, I've been able to get them with time. I got faith I'll get it. This is a personal vendeta that I have with this one and I WILL WIN!
There is this thread http://straightrazorpalace.com/honin...ggestions.html that has very good pictures. One of the things with the razors you are trying to hone. Not many of them are regular honing, most of them are restoration honing. You have to create the bevel from scratch. It can take a very long time. Also the metal can have some subsurface damage requiring you to remove more metal than initially appears. The initial bevel set is the foundation for everything. Every great edge is built on the work you do on the 1 and 4K.
Gasman. I'm not sure I follow what you're saying. You set the bevel and got a good TNT. This means the bevel is set and you're ready for the next stone. Then you say the end product was just not right. What do you mean by this? Is it because the blade somehow felt dull on the TPT?Quote:

Any other testing between stones will only complicate things for you. At this level you want to keep it as simple as you can. If you do this without any bad strokes that damage the edge, you should have a decent shaving edge.
Sometimes it helps to pick up another razor and work on the bevel. Comparing a pair in honing stroke and how the edge progresses differently between them helps me. Alsi, comparing a known well shaving edge to what you have can help show where you want to be.
The last dozen or two laps on the stones with feather light pressure helps too

Nice work going on here guys. Gasman, that razor came out sweet, personalized scales, pins and blade all came together nicely for you. Looks pretty cool! And PR100, you really put new life into that "Utro", nice job.
Great look razor Jerry, and can't wait to see what those burl blanks turn out like Andrew. Maybe my shavemac knot will knot be going in the walnut handle hahaha.
