I am going to to woodcraft orange county on Tuesday to pickup a c12k. I may see if they have any in stock. If not I'll do maple with a cherry red clear coat that is just translucent enough to see wood grain through. What top coat do you guys think would be best on a straight? I'm thinking marine spar as its a urethane meant for boats.

I've never even heard of a mix like that. Seems like it would be more like furniture polish at that point. There's always good old lacquer too. Lol. Stain(if any) sand and seal(aerosl can), buff with 400grit, three coats of lacquer buffing with 400 between coats and that's a fine finish. And u can do it in about 2.5 hours.

Looks like Jantz has Padauk and Redheart but only in 5" lengths. The Redheart looks good but the padauk has more grain.

Forget Jantz, Woodcraft has both in a huge assortment of thicknesses and a way better price.

THAT is what is known as a rescale! ALL Red Imps, whether Case, Morris, Ludo, or Geisen and Forsthoff came in red scales with the Red Imp logo on front. The top pin on that razor will testify!

I rest my case.

Case Red Imps were and are notorious for shrinkage and warpage. As many of them out there rescaled with whatever was available as are DD Satinedges, which suffer from the same malady. Neither of your yellow examples are in the original scales, JMO. 'Factory' pins with no washer on one side? No need to take my word as such, however. The second example is obviously from Manah. Perhaps he could weigh in on whether it was rescaled or not.
