I think you did the right thing and would like to see photos when you finish. The thing to bear in mind about pitting is that you can't remove it - you can only remove good metal surrounding it. There comes a time when you have to accept when enough work has been done. Anything more probably needs equipment for a re-grind.
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

These are the last pics after 60/80/120/220/320/400/600/800/1000/1200. It took more than 10 hours. Shall I continue with 1500/2000 grit sandpaper and then polish or just polish like this? What about polishing with hands. I don't know anything about polishing.

1500, 2000, and 2500 for that mirror shine. No water or WD40 needed up that high. Then finish with Maas buff.

Yep.. good work +1 on that as you get to a good clean 2000 the shine will appear then it's the jewelers polish on a soft felt or cloth and your done. Good hard work. I see before me. Well done. That man. Thumbs up ;-)

Watch the DIY pinning videos. It can be tricky at first.

Well done!! I would go up to 2000 and then use some commercial metal polish with a clean cloth buff afterwards.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Yes Mattcb that works too. Their are hundreds of methods to get a mirror finish . I would suggest try what is to hand and what is best for the blade. For example I once made the mistake of using a sisal mop on a extra hollow wit a little too much pressure. And it broke a small bit of the tip. Arrrg I was able to sort it out but..lesson learned. Ithink glen and Lynn came up with the catch phrase " rush a restoration wreck a razor "
