The Butchered Blade

Hey guys, I thought I'd share my pain with you..

I bought an W&B 8/8th in excellent condition, with some mild pitting . Including tax vat customs it came to $400.

The past 2 weeks I've been making rosewood scales and a lined wedge. Last night I finished sanding it up (3k). It's by far the nicest blade ive come across..

Then this morning I found a crack near the toe end, im in a state of shock at the moment haha..

Have a butchers at this..

That's a bit of a bummer.

Can't tell in your 2nd photo where the crack is but any chance of turning it into a shorty?

The crack is 4mm from the tip and 1mm deep..
It could be made into a shorty but at the moment I wont settle for second best :/ ... I'm having visions of me throwing it into a canal :boohoo:

The canal would be a sad end.

Joseph looking at conversion charts, thats not very much, if im right...
Why not hone it into a big smiling blade.
Post another pic that shows the blade in whole, and the actual crack.
Or throw it over the pond at me... Seriously!! Not the canal. [emoji47]

4 mm back from toe and 1 mm deep. If it starts as an 8/8, you should be able to eliminate it and save a 7/8 out of it..
Better pics needed for sure.
Have a few that I found much deeper cracks in and saved.
This is the thread for it's salvation. ;)

A good honing would take a lot of that crack out, on a blade that thick it may not hurt a thing other than cosmetics. If the blade were thinner it would cause problems due to flexing, but on this blade it should not be a problem.

Cheers guys ,I think I can hone it out, the only problem is that I would have to regress the entire edge to keep the shape or as outback says make it smile more.

At first I just saw the crack and thought "its over".

To be fair I was gonna grease it and bag it before throwing it in a canal so in a million years time some one would find it and think oh wow , until they saw the crack :whipped:
