It may have been made that way, or dropped, by the maker.

    Just something to think about.
It could also have been dropped on the floor by the PO or maybe it was dropped in a cup 3 or 4 inches a day for years.....

Ya know, that could be exactly what happened. Would explain both the slight bend and the corrosion if it was tail down in a tin cup or something all those years. All the moisture would migrate to the tail and we all know what constant repetitive impact will do over time, specially once the metal started to weaken from the rust.

It's decided, will try to apply some metal 'spackle' tomorrow if the plant behaves and I can get the time in the shop..

I guess since Andrew found his, I need to find mine. At least I have most of my W&B's all in a box.

I've seen a few like that, but I do believe they were all W&B's....

Ran a trial on a similar blade before committing to this beauty.

After cleaning it up some you can see the different color metal between the original blade and my solder. I was worried about the colour match, partly why I wanted to practice.
Need to find a different solder mix before I do the real work.

I straightened out the tail as much as I'd dare at work and compared to the other WB, close enough for me.
    cheers.

So coated it in flux and also note the ice pack I wrapped the blade in prior to clapping it up.

Hard to capture on pic, but it's definitely a fuller tail again. Filled in the voids nicely, after multiple goes with the flux and a butane torch tip to clean out all the crannies first. The shank never got warm beyond the pin hole thanks to the ice and vice.
Once I clean the entire blade up it should be barely noticeable cept for the slight colour variance.

this crew really amazes me with what you all try and (usually) succeed at. I'm a brute force guy, so I'd love to see a thread called Butchered Outtakes, where all the failed attempt pics were posted. It'd make me feel better about my failures.
