You could have decided on the tip clearance to the wedge and chosen your pin location from that and then trimmed any excess from the end, assuming there was some. You could decide how much extra there is and split the difference and not trim. You could have done it more or less the way you did. It will always be a case by case basis. It took me quite a few pinnings and repinings to become satisfied with my pinning. Your job looks good. I do like using the formed collars and washers from Austin Kennedy, ajkeene on eBay.
