Had to build a wooden box to go over the plumbing for the sprinkler system today. Hinged top with shingles and siding to match the house. Its 24 X 36 and 3.5ft tall. Turned out nice but I'm not done with it. I'll snap a pic or two when its done tomorrow. Well, besides the paint to match the house. So I only got about 30 minutes on the belt sander with the anvil. Its much better but has some low spots still. Going to go at it again tomorrow as I still got belts to use up. Then tomorrow night I will start on the handwork. The rough spot on top didn't take as much work as I thought. I still need to round it up a bit more to smooth out the transition from the bad to the good, but its a lot closer to looking right.
I'll post up some pics in another spot on the forum when I get a chance. I need to get started on some honing here in a bit after some food. Also got the sprinklers adjusted and half the yards mowed before it got too dark. Just not enough time in one day. Can I order up a few 35 hour days during my weekend? It's just Sharpening, right?

Looking forward to seeing that, Jerry.
From the outside-in, sprinkler systems seem to be an eternal PIA?
Anyway, if I had dough for one, I would have already spent it on something else!

Ya got a bit of work on that anvil,Jerry. Heed the advice of the 60 or even 50 grit. I know I have 36 for the DA sander (sticky back ). No sense playing around, ya want to set a bevel with a 4000, or a 1000. That's how I felt making 7 or 8 of them..!! Get the work done...then its just polishing it out, step by step.
Ya got 4 hrs...it better be done.!Mike

Thanked: 315Jerry
With the low part being on the edge, do you really need to even it out? Or is more for appearance?
I mentioned I wanted to make my own anvil. Cutting it isn't going to be a small job though.- Joshua

The rough part is cool. The rest could suffice?

too many other things going on right now. The anvil will need to wait till tomorrow. I think I'm going to go pick up a disc sanding part or my drill. This should help a lot. As far as getting it all evenly rounded, its only for looks. I mean yes, it would be cool to have it perfect, but it was rough to start with so it might not come out as much of a smoothly rounded top as I want. Its just for looks anyway. It will be a lot better than it was, thats for sure! I'm shooting for a mirror finish on the cut sides and the top. The hevely pitted sides will look cool with some paint. Might go with black or a dark grey, but I haven't made up my mind on that.
I put a few minutes hand sanding and polishing the center of the top just to see what it will look like... The side closet to the camera is the side that was rusted and pitted.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 315Well, looks like I'm not getting an anvil after all. Maybe next time I'll find someone with a cutting torch.
