Here's my anvil a 40lb block, doubles up as a kettlebell if needed.

Ya, Cool!
Also, a doorstop or something for an intruder to eat! Rare earth magnets on the end?

It was a trio of power tools.
I started with a 4" air driven disc sander with 36 grit.
Then a 6" electric disc sander/ polisher with 50&80 grit.
Then a DA sander with 80, 220, 400.
Then put a polishing bonnet on the 6" electric sander with buffing compounds, then various metal polishes.
Finished by hand with Maas or Flitz.
Respirator.... Uuuuh yeah, unless your iron deficient.

I didn't have a DA or grinder so I dug in the toolbox and found enough.
Started with a belt sander at 50, 80 then 120. Then pulled out my die-grinder with corse scotchbrite discs. Vibrating palm sander 220, 320 and 400. Then the buffer with greaseless at 400 and 600 then green, white and blue compounds. Finished with hand polishing with Flitz. My hands and back feel it today. It's just Sharpening, right?

I decided to give my 1/8" Carbide Ball Mill Bit a go on the top of the rail. It worked very well. I put a divot at both ends/one deeper than the other.
I cut the tips off of some Q-tips mounted them in my mini drill press and used some 600 greaseless to smooth the divots then some CrOx to finish polishing them up.
This one I barely broke the surface/a 1/16" brass or nickel silver rod fits snugly.
I went deeper with this one and the rods are loose in it. But it's still smaller than 1/8"
I put a bit of Renascence Wax on it after I'd done the work. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
