Your gonna enjoy that a anvil, their rock solid, and create a certain ring when the pins tighten up.
Besides Sharptons, I did seven or eight others. Took a average of 4 hrs. to sand n polish each one.

The guy who cut up the piece of track, said it took almost an hour to make each cut.!!

I got lucky...he didn't charge me for cutting it up.

They also work great, as a weight for flattening scales.

Polished on the end(s) is a good way to have a smaller anvil surface when needed by laying the track on the other end.
I passed mine forward a few years back.
    Great post, thank you

What do you think is a good size (if i should be able to get a hold of that piece i found) to have it cut into?

I don't know how big outback had his cut, but Freddie's is about 4.5" long. He posted a pic with the ruler in the first post, but here's one he sent me and it looks plenty big to me---

I'm guessing by the picture that it's about as wide as a US dollar bill.

I've got railroad track and a harbor freight bandsaw blade I'm happy to sacrifice. I think I'm going to have to do some cutting. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

    Nice find Freddie.

I been looking for a small piece of track for a few years now with no luck.
All I can seem to find are real big pieces that weigh a ton.
Can't wait to see it when it's done.

Sounds like you’ve found a productive way to spend an hour or so.

I sent Peter a link to a guy selling rail sections at what I consider a very reasonable price and most include Free Shipping. He has made his purchase so I'm posting the link to ONE of the rail sections. Check out what else the guy has to offer.

I hope this is a help for looking for a section of rail road rail.
