Thread: Covid-era projects.

Hopefully, the dreaded virus is taking it's leave.
I dunno about you guys, but it has left me with some crazy time and no money to speak of!

Lets share the things we did during the duress!

My mother in law passed, leaving my wife with some bucks. Had to have a new car.. Got a nice one!
Needing dough. I sold the old Toyota Pickup. A blessing! Still. need an extra.
Left to the old girl I had provided previously to the wife in my hands. Long story, but pretty well refreshed. Lifted, Bilsteins, new tires, alignment to go. New Trac-lock rear differential with all new bearings. l. Every sensor, plug, coil, injector, MAP and TPS sensors and intake gaskets.
Lots of upper intake/valve cleaning. Ridiculous amount of suspension, custom, parts/work. Bilsteins!
Some paint and body stuff from a neighbor. Seat covers, rear wiper arm, never ends.
Just one of my 'covid' projects. Finally rolling out!
Car was always a hoot. Should be more of that now..

I had been doing well-needed home upgrades.

With my body disagreeing half the time, I still managed to get my downstairs bathroom remodeled. I also had all the concrete removed and re-poured in the front of my house. All new plumbing in the house, New floors in a couple of rooms upstairs, and new windows ordered for the entire house. I've bought the stuff to put in a tiled backsplash in the kitchen and new oak steps for the staircase that goes downstairs but haven't gotten them started yet. Layed Sod in part of the front yard and removed 10 old Rose bushes. Have plans for a raised flower bed in the front yard. Also had the big tree in my front yard trimmed.

It's been a spendy year but the house won't need much more work when this is all over. The plan is to paint the house when I'm all caught up. Maybe next year. BTW, I am one of the lucky ones who got to work during this Covid stuff. The Gasoline has to keep flowing no matter what!

Man, I bet it feels good to have all that done, Jerry. My old house needs a pile of things.
I was hoping to bug out of this city to somewhere slower and cleaner.

Cops are hiding out. Nobody is seen being pulled-over. Paper tags on every other car. Drag racing, loud shit, red lights in the FRONT of the car. The illegals can go to one of many 'servicio' places and buy a month's insurance WITHOUT a driver's license and purchase a paper tag with that for 90 days. Old crap cars and trucks in the previous owner's name (twice removed) with paper tags everywhere.

Gunshots. Folks empty clips most every night.

Does not seem worth it to fix the foundation, do a plumbing job like you have.
Makes me feel like Tennessee Ernie Ford.. Ain't gonna need this house no more!

Yall did some big stuff.

Would you believe restoring straight razors? Spending time and saving money, I've spent about $220 on razors, and about $300 on tools, mostly with gift cards.

Also sourdough bread. The bread has been more expensive because the flour shortage I've been buying artisan stuff from some small mill and having it shipped.

No major projects here, just keeping my head down till this blows over. From what I have been hearing you don't want to buy lumber here right now because the current prices would gag a maggot and that is if you can find what you want in any quantity. Too much production off line.

I understand what your saying, Tom. Sounds like your in a worse area than me. Im in town too and surrounded by low income housing but my street is mainly retired Military. But they have been selling off so no telling what we will end up with.

We stay in the house when home and keep to ourselves.

Funny, it has been so long since I bought lumber I don't even know what to expect. But I just got a stick of 2x2 cherry shipped from Amazon for $20. Is that expensive? Who knows, but I didn't have to get gussied up and go to the store. Nor did I have to tie one stick into the back of the truck to get it home.

Were getting off subject but a 2x4x8 now cost 9 bucks. When i used to pay 3 bucks for one.

I don't know about the price of speciality woods like cherry but any lumber connected to construction is sky high compared to pre Covid prices. You even might find out that you can't get enough wood to do a major project in one shot.
