    Default sycamore scales

Here is the other set of scales that I have been working on. They are made of one piece of sycamore. The edge was painted black in between coats of lacquer. The blade is a Ramapo wedge. I tried several different shapes for the washers I settled on the cone shape. I turned the brass in my wood lathe.

When I first put it together the blade would not stay closed, the tang/shank is wedge shaped and popped out of the scales. I fixed the problem by using thicker than normal washers between the scales and the blade.

    WoW!

Great job - I really like the way those scales look - both the type of wood and the shape!

Nice work! I've encountered that same problem with the tang wanting to pop out of the scales. I like the painted edges.

Yes it is the same one, I have gone through several itterations of pinning since then. I had been trying to get the blade to stay closed and the washers to look better.

Very nice scales! very clean, especially the collars.

If I may ask... What exactly was the process you used to finish the scales? and, how did you, and, what type of paints did you use for the edges?
