Well I just placed the orders and already only one kit left.
You are on the list RT.
As predicted the 10 will be gone before the stock arrives. There is only one kit left and I don't mind keeping it as extra.

This is amazing I read your post about thirty minutes after you posted it and then thought I would measure the mandrel on my dremel and let you know what I wanted. Well this caught on quickly and I am what number 23.
Well I would like to have a kit in the 1/8 inch mandrel size when you get around to making them.
Would you Let me know where I stand on getting an order, please.
Thanks,
Bill Watkins

Bill W. are in, you are number 10.
At first I thought perfect! Then realized that I did not count myself in the 10.
As luck would have it, Keith at HandAmerican is waiting for a shipment of leather mid next week and I told him to hold the order until it is complete. So I will get a chance to upgrade the order and make 15 kits.
There is no way I am going through all this and not have at least a kit or two with my name on it.

Yes, that would be a 1/8" shank. You can use either one with the dremel in any case. The dremel has a Jacob's chuck that will take anything less than 3/16" if I remember right.

I noticed that if I take my time writing a reply, after I am done a lot of the posts are marked as "Read".
I am now trying to use the e-mail reminders, which I set to once a day per thread, to track posts. It only applies to the threads that I posted in but at least I get to track those.

Do the disks work better than the sanding tubes that come with a Dremel? Are these featured on Bills CD?
Thanks, Glen

Unless the tubes are a large diameter I would not use them on a razor. Not only are they not comfortable, it is difficult to keep the tubes parallel to the surface and you will get an ondulating surface. They are not very forgiving that way. Their contact area with the metal is very small so they tend to gouge deeper scratch marks. You would need a tube diameter to match the original grind wheel to get a bigger contact area.
Have you had good results with the tubes? When I tried using the small grind wheel (same shape and size as the tube) I butchered a blade and that was the end of that experiment.
Another problem with the tubes is the grit size. I have not seen any above 220 grit and that is just too rough for getting a polished metal surface. I find that even 1000 grit finish does not polish without leaving visible scratch marks. That is the reason I wanted sandpaper all the way to 2500 grit in the kit.
Bill does not talk about the PSA Sanding disks on the current version of the CD (unless I missed the info). He told me he is planning to update the CD but have no idea if he will include a section on sanding disks. In the mean time you can get all the information on how to use the disks on these forums.
That said, Bill does use the disks for restoration and while reading the forum archive I came upon a thread where he sold his last PSA kit here, quite a few months ago (to Library Guy if memroy serves me).
I got interested in these disks after reading Larry's (aka Korndog) thread on his New Restoration Project and having spent over 8 hours sanding by hand one of my own. The latter I would not do again unless it would save the life of very close relative.
Sanding disks are the only thing that I know of that you can use without investing into serious equipment other than a rotary tool. Of course there is always "by hand".Last edited by vladsch; 02-18-2006 at 07:02 PM.
