Where to find high-grit sand paper?
My Goal:
I would like to shine this blade to a mirror finish. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that I need to sand the blade with 600,800,1000,1500,2000 grit sand paper and then buff it with a cloth.
My Problem:
I have searched local stores and cannot find any sand paper over 600 grit and my online search was inconclusive.
Does anyone know where I can find high grit (800 - 2000 grit) sand paper online at a good price? Preferably in a variety pack because I don't really want to spend $6-10 per pack of each grit to only use one or two sheets.
Also, I was wondering if fine steel wool would be a more budget friendly substitute.
Maybe someone wouldn't mind donating a sheet or two of each grit to help me out?
Thank you,

Thanked: 3795From the look of that blade, I'm not sure that 2000 grit will improve it. Does it have any blemishes not shown in the photo? You might want to try just a metal polish, like Maas or Flitz, on it first.

Wal-Mart carries up to 2000 grit wet and dry sand paper in the automotive section. Also, most auto supply stores carry these grits in the area dealing with body work.

Thanked: 1936I agree with Utioian, that blade just looks like it needs a bit of metal polish and some elbow grease.

I think Utopian is right here. From that pic it looks like you need to put it on a bench buffer with a wheel and some polish.
My real hobby and passion is classic autos. I drive the truck that is my avatar; almost daily. That said, if you want the high grit sand paper your best bet is likely to be the local body shop or PPG dealer. Some auto parts stores carry high grit wet-dry, but some don't. The body shops and PPG dealers carry it as stock in trade.

I've tried using Never Dull on it but it doesn't seem to do much. I keep hearing about maas. Is that better than Never Dull? Where can I buy that?
Don't have any power tools to work with; it's all gotta be done by hand.Last edited by doncarlt86; 02-23-2011 at 04:27 PM.

Thanked: 1936You can order Maas online as well as flitz. I have both and am not sure if one is better than theother...both are great. I think I ordered mine from amazon...
