Thanked: 13245Honestly, I hone next to a full sink of water so I just scoop some water with the blade and go with it...
Probably like the same as one spray from a squirt bottle...

Thanks Glen. I'll give it a try this weekend now that I know the method. I was hoping Jimmy had tried it since I know he has them too.

Finally tried it tonight. I played hooky from work today and had the ambition to get off my lazy duff.
I had never generated slurry on a synthetic before and it was interesting. The naniwas kind of generate a bit of slurry when you're honing on them anyhow but this was more than that.
I followed the instructions and went through 1,3,5,8,10 and 12. The razor was super keen and shaved well. TBH it is not a system I will use on a regular basis, 'cause it's too much work and I'm lazy, but if a person wants to do it I would say it worked well for me. Thanks to Glen for putting the method out there.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I actually did it myself on Sunday with a Gold Dollar razor I honed for another member. This was my first time using the slurry system on the Naniwa's as well. The results were excellent. I test shaved it, and it felt like a velvet squegee...I'm sure the recepient will be pleased as well...I'm in the process of honing a an Ebay special Torrey, I did some resto on it over the weekend, and started setting the bevel, and is proving to be time consuming on this blade.... I had to set it aside, because I had to get the Gold Dollar back to it's owner, who's leaving Jacksonville for Belgium.
We have assumed control !

I know you asked for Naniwa Super Stone users for this, Glen, but I just ordered a few Choseras, and plan on giving your method a try with them on a few razors. 1k, 3k, 5k, 10k.

Glen,
This method was made for the Choseras. I just got done taking five practice blades through, sticking exactly to your "recipe".
The results were fantastic.
Initially, I made the mistake of making the slurry to thick. Big mistake. The slurry took the sharpness down a bunch. Remaking the slurry very thin made all the difference. I made the slurry with just a couple very light figure 8's with a DMT 8C.
I only got five laps out of the 10k on the last step... rinsing, removing excess water with a finger, then doing light laps until the stone was just damp. The 10k dries out rather quickly, so it only made it through five of my rather slow laps. I was expecting the edge to be not quite as keen, since the number of final laps on the 10k was so minimal, but they certainly appear to be just as sharp as far as I can tell without actually shaving with one yet.
The edges all feel great. They all have the velvet squeegee feeling on arm hair. I'll shave with one of them in a bit.
This system is *easy*. I really think that the newest of newbs could get good results quickly.
If the results off the other stones (Super Stones, Nortons, etc.) are this good, this system should probably go in the WIKI as a great way for new guys to start off with good results.
The only potential hangup I could see new guys getting in trouble with this system is making the slurry to thick. It's gotta be thin, at least on these stones. Maybe the other stone types aren't as sensitive to slurry thickness?
Edit: Thumbs up on the shave test. All three passes nice and smooth.Last edited by FloorPizza; 01-29-2011 at 12:18 AM.

So this kinda sounds like "one stone honing." Or, am I imagining things? I have a set of Nortons, 220/1k, 4k/8k, and a ChiCom 12K. It oughta work on those, shouldn't it?
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.
