Thanked: 156With all due respect sir, that one is not an Iwasaki.
All the production timeframe Iwasaki used metal stamps on ALL razors be it kamisory or western grinds.
Also on western razors in all iwasaki catalogs there are no razors with a shoulder. All they ever produced were shoulderless and Shigeioshi once spoke about the disadvantage of a shoulder stabilizer in a video.
I'll see if I can find it.
Anyway...these models are laser etched...not metal stamped...and have a shoulder.
Plus the materials used for the handle are not the same quality.
It is my humble opinion that iwasaki never produced those razors, but are a cheap replica. Plus ther do resemble other cheaper japanese razors. Also none of them have been seen with a box...and there are many more observations to be made regarding fit and finish and geometry.

But of course!
IMO, as production ceased, the name was sold/used by a big maker like Hayashi or Kikuboshi. Hence the perceived 'fakes'
A razor from Japan with the Iwasaki mark should be related somehow. Hard to think they allowed such things?
When did Iwasaki production end?
Observations and opinions are good. Hardly conclusive, however.
With all due respect, of course!Last edited by sharptonn; 05-10-2018 at 01:51 AM.

The description ends with "...on blade with heavy tarnish and heavily damaged blade. Both in good condition with age wear."
On one hand, they say the one blade is heavily damaged. But... immediately follow that up with that bit about age related wear.Decades away from full-beard growing abilities.

For the right price it would make for a nice matched set of scales.
It's just Sharpening, right?

The thought of salvaging the scales occurred to me as well. But compare the inlay of both sets. The set on the roached blade has tarnish on the inlay that almost matches that of what's left of the blade.
To me, this begs the question: Are these scales made of celluloid?? They could be gassing off, which would completely rule them out as donors. YMMV.Decades away from full-beard growing abilities.

Thanked: 9Description states "small crack/split in metal". What constitutes a big crack?
