So..i went to the local antique store here, and found a couple of REALLY amazing razors (one faux frameback W&B) - all of them either broken/chipped CLEARLY beyond a point of being rescuable or one that'd require a LOT of work before a maybe being listed at $100's .... why/how? I keep seeing this on ebay too, are there people BUYING chipped razors as showpieces? Some of these are even relatively common razors from early 20th cent. so not that rare or old either.

Visited an antique shop near me recently and asked the owner why her straight razors were priced (over priced IMHO) the way they were. Most were not salvageable. She replied that customers used them to create shadow box displays for Fathers’ Day or dad birthdays and were quite willing to pay what she asked. I suspect she didn’t mind keeping them for quite a while in her display because they did not take up a lot of space and she likely did not have a lot invested in them.

"Shadow box display" for fathers day...interesting. I still wouldn't use a broken Razor but...

Well, that's good that these poor broken razors are seeing some use at least.

Recycling scales and making wind chimes seem to be popular uses for dead straights as well.

Well, the rest of that seller's stuff looks like a picker's salad and the last Remington straight that sold albeit with mop scales got $1350. It makes sense why they just shot from the hip with that price zone on all those remingtons they have up. Idk the market really for Remington branded cutlery but I do know ppl go after the stuff and winchester branded stuff as well.

There are a few shops in my area that I keep picked clean. I always wonder if they notice that the ten dollar blades get purchased and the 40 dollar blades languish for years. My main shop just prices them all low and puts them aside for me, but the big multi vendor shop has blades that should be paying rent, they have been there so long.

We're still in this antique/vintage craze that started years ago. Most people buying these razors don't use them to shave. They have other uses mostly displays and things so they pay the asking prices.

Damn pickers are at it again & these guys are ridiculous. The blades don'e have hardly any hone wear but they want an arm, a leg & a pint of blood for 'em. Look at all this seller has.

They want $595.00 for this Arthur Linley. In my Sheffield directory it is listed under Parker & Linley. They have more straight razors they want a lot for but this one is the most.
