I'm doing all message through the eBay message system. I'm not dealing with them outside of eBay. So the seller wants me to return the razor to them. How do I know I'll get a refund? I've never returned anything before. This is new territory to me. I did ask the seller if the blade had any cracks in it. The blown up pic of it showed what I thought was a crack..... They assured me it was fine.

Here's a link to the razor in question.... Look at the close up of the blade itself..... Looks like a hairline crack. They said it was their poor photographer and a reflection from a window in the background

Just send him back, but be sure that your package got a trucking number. Notify the seller that item on the way back. You will get your refund, after he will receive the package. (In my case, but it was couple of years ago).
You should communicate to eBay directly, in order to verify the refund procedures.
By the way, he mentioned in the tender that there is 14 days return policy.
Don't worry, you are protected by eBay and PayPal

Open a case with eBay for "not as described". eBay will make him pay the return freight and issue you a credit. Don't do this without going through eBay. They will protect you!

The way its SUPPOSED to work, is you open an item not as described, and you return the item.

The problem is, you messed with the blade after the fact. Once you spotted the crack, it should have gone right into the box for returning. There is now an obvious breakage which was not there before, and it would be within the sellers rights to deny your return. A hard to see crack can still be sold as a display item collectable. Now the blade is simply a set of scales for a restorer to pick up for a few bucks.

When I open the package the piece was barely hanging on. The chip was there. Maybe in transit? Regardless of the chip now, the blade has cracks in it. Display piece or not. It's useless to me as a shaver. If using as a display piece the chip could be glue back to it. The cracks are pretty obvious when the light hits the blade just right.

Well the seller and me have been sending messages back and forth the past few days. I made an offer just for the scales only. The blade is toast. They replied back and offered me a refund of $60. The price for it was $112.50 plus the 6.85 shipping. I'll be sending it back to him on Monday. Do they need to issue a call tag? Does eBay? Or do I just send it back to him on my own dime?

I have never had anybody return a razor to me, but in my auctions, I have it listed as "buyer pays return shipping" Of course, I make sure not to sell any broken blades!

That's fair to me. I wouldn't sell any cracked blades either.

Read my previous posts. eBay will make him pay and send a cell tag or a refund if you open a "not as described" case. If you do it outside eBay it will probably cost you.

Ok. I did open a dispute with eBay. eBay says to see if me and the seller can work it. If not then to contact eBay if there is a problem.

This is what eBay says on the dispute message.
"You declined the partial refund of US $60.00.We have let the seller know so they can offer another solution or you can ask us to step in and help. If you and your seller need more time to work things out - your request will stay open until Dec 31, 2015."

Here is the message from the seller:
"Hi Willis, In looking at my purchase price and all ..... I can do the $60.00 refund or you may send the entire razor back and I will try to figure a way to sell. I will contact the underbidders (there were several) and maybe they would consider a purchase. Again, my apology for not knowing the fine ins and out of antique razors. To me it looks as perfect as one could ever be. Thanks"

So now what? Wait for eBay to message me or the seller to issue a call tag or instructions?
Is it over there or over yonder?
