It's pretty clear they shave as much as they can to make more money and cut way too close to the bone. I half expect the wooden box to be missing and the thing in a padded envelope. At least that british plaster tends to be brutal...

Well first update, a drunken boast from newgistics that it may be delivered by friday. I am spotting them a few days due to the weekend and holiday that it has been in ny. This is still slow considering proximity but it is like 150% faster than the original subject of this thread. We shall see. Name: Screenshot_20170222-165320.jpg

It takes a bit of will power sometimes (sometimes you just really really really want the item), but I absolutely refuse to buy ANYTHING on Ebay where "Global shipping program" is mentioned. I've seen way too many bad package jobs, not to mention absurd fees, to ever want to deal with an item touched by Pitney Bowes and the Global shipping program.

Quite frankly I am expecting a problem but we'll see. Other non bidders called my bluff.

Hmm...this has been an interesting read. Curious to see how things play out. Obviously I'm hoping your item arrives in the same condition the seller sent it in.

I guess I've been lucky to date, everything I've picked up from the Bay has been handled by the respective country's post office rather than a third party carrier. I didn't even know they had a 'Global Shipping Program,' but now I know to be wary of it.

Well in uk anyway, a company called pitney bowes deals with gsp and basically tries to maximize their profit by repackaging things like animals and then once it gets here a logistics company called newgistics (google them to see what a nasty piece of work they are) leave the potentially ruined stuff in limbo for ages. Btw, supposedly today now for delivery.

I believe it is Pitney Bowes who handle GSP in the US also. I think that has been mentioned in other threads on this subject.

They did not alter anything this time. Stone arrived safely so at least this time no claims drama and no backbreaking grinding out of chips on a charnley.. My verdict? Continue to lowball maxes on these auctions and exercise extreme caution.Name: 20170223_120520.jpg

Charnley forests remain some of the most visually striking hones. Need to lap it but a pretty thing

If that big chip were in the main working area, I probably would have sent it back to the UK. She was shocked to see what they traded off her packaging for. The thing I find most concerning is they obviously damaged the stone when it was loose from all packaging as the remnants of the big chip weren't there. They just ignored and plowed on. That could be really miserable if you buy something you can't afford to damage like a blade, or say, components for an old foreign car you need badly, or technical things.
I stopped using GSP altogether, prefer to know that when I package an item secure it will stay that way and arrive that way. I have had zero issues shipping without GSP and on the buying end there is no inflated price for a third party handler!
