Thanked: 4827I hate it too. I pretty much never even look at items that are using the program. It is super expensive and super slow, plus they charge brokerage fees that are as brokerage fees are by nature just gauging plain and simple. I have never had them loose or mispackage anything but won't buy anything that uses that service. Those guys and UPS are criminal in what they charge.

As a seller who utilized the plan I liked it. Case in point, I sold an Escher Barber's Delight for a lot of $ to a guy in Russia. Had I been on my own I would have been sweating bullets waiting the MONTH that it took the stone to be delivered.
Of course I insured it for the full value, but my responsibility ended in Kentucky at the ebay international shipping center. So had anything happened subsequent to the delivery within the USA I was off the hook.
This was before I was aware of the re-packing that ebay does. A friend of mine buys and sells expensive copper tin lined cookware on ebay. She packs bullet proof in her sales to wherever, and she won't use the global shipping program because they repack.
She knows this, and made it known to me, by pieces of cookware she has received from Europe, from sellers that she knows pack well. The pieces, in some cases damaged, in some not, were unpacked and repacked haphazardly by ebay reps.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 169She said that she is constantly having to issue partial refunds lately due to the gsp logistics ppl damaging things. She only sticks with them BC even with this nuisance, it is cheaper than opting out for her in UK. They have sort of neutralized their incompetence via fees... Sad.

Thanked: 169She said she can just file formal complaints. Idk as I opted out from gsp and haven't been in the seller loop with it. It's asking for trouble.

i agree for the price, but the seller needs to put it in a package in which the item can be delivered safely. otherwise, for the price and the package they put the item in (by global shipping staff) are exceeded. sometimes i hate to see the sellers send their items only by global shipping option, if they would chose to send by going to post office, they can find some lower shipping price and may have attention to gain more.

Thanked: 169Is it meeting weight and dimensional spec or is it more visual confirmation of the item by eBay logistics? Even if it were in spec, I don't expect them to neatly rewrap an item and tape the box again. Why would you when you have the padded envelope of doom?

Thanked: 169EBay didn't even have the good faith to sandwich the stone in a cardboard splint to give it some protection. It is pure lack of care

by the way, i don't know if i have rights to ask it here (if not please let me know). if any user is interested by sending each other the items bought, please send me a MP. to be more clear; if someone interested by an item which is being selled in europe but the seller doesn't want to send it to oversea or the fees are too much. i can receive the item and send it to you and samething for the otherway; when i'm interested by an item which is in US but the seller does not send it to oversea or the fees exceeded, i can give your address and you can send me the item. as we can do it by paypal, i don't think to have any problem. but anyway i think if somebody is interested with this proposition, we should talk about it before to trust eachother.
well i hope i'm allowed to propose such a thing, if not you can let me know.

It all seems fine to me then. The damage due to poor repackaging is apparently well compensated by the increased size of the market.
The sellers and the buyers are happy with renegotiating a lower price to compensate for the shortcoming of the GSP which means it's worth to them more than the hassle of getting compensation from the program.
Personally, if I ever sell on ebay, I'll probably use it or not depending on the specific item, and since it'll be just for big ticket stuff if they cause damage I will pursue them for compensation.
My only experience is a potential use. Usually I just give away my older computers/phones/tablets to family but few months ago they didn't need another macbookpro, so I posted it on ebay. It was bought by a seller in Ukraine, but then he failed to pay, so I never got to use the program.
