ebay tommyrazor
man, WTF. why can't people just state the obvious. they bend the truth each and everytime it seems. i mean Tommyrazor on ebay sells a ton of razors. you would think the guy would have a clue by now. we just had a post not too long ago from a member who met him in person to look over his goods. if you read this fill us in on the type of person he is.
heres my latest encounter with him:
ITEM DESCRIPTION ON EBAY:
THIS RAZOR IS IN GREAT CONDITION ITS LIKE NEW ...IT HAS BENGALL ON THE TANG .BLACK CELLULOID HANDLE ENGRAVED BLADE {FINEST HOLLOW GROUND }WRITEN ON THE BLADE THE BLADE IS OVER 6/8".THE CASE IS ALSO LIKE NEW. .....POSTAGE $8 TO US & CANADA...$12 TO EUROPE ..$14 TO REST OF THE WORLD ....DISCOUNT FOR MULTI POSTAGE ..
first of all the picture was too far to see the features. but its described "like new" so that what you expect. there are alot of like new blades on ebay and they are "like new".
so the blade arrives. well, both sides of the face of the blade are in very good condition. i might go as far as to call them "like new". this is where the good description ends. the top of the spine has pitting near the end. not just discolouration where some Maas can remove it, we are talking pitting. this isn't hard to see, you can run your finger or fingernail over it to feel it. then the entire underside of the tang is just black with chunks of gunk and/or rust. i mean how obvious is that to the seller!! thats impossible to miss. what happend to the "like new". oh, the box was in brand new shape. yippee, im jumping for joy or something
then lets talk about the shipping. 8$ to the US. WTF again. i can understand 5$ thats priority shipping in which they include a box for free. hell if you wanna go 6$ for priority i won't complain. instead the razor was wrapped with 1 piece of papertowel and then a smidge of bubble wrap. this small chunk was put into a bubble envelope. OK, bubble envelopes are 1$ and shipping first class is 2$. so how the hell do you get to 8$!!!!!!
check out the pic:
so to sum it up. item wasn't described correctly and shipping costs were freaking terrible. Tommyrazor should go into the hall of shame.

ps. he has alot of nice razors but becarefull bidding because of the above. know what you're getting into before hand.

I would start by contacting him and not complaining to us, only then if there is obvious dishonesty going on would I complain openly! I have dealt with Tommyrazor many times and have never been dissatisfied! As far as shipping, he clearly states what his shipping is and by bidding you are implying that you agree with it and will pay it!

Thanked: 22If you search for his name there are a few threads about him and the feelings are mixed. there is also an excellent post in one of them about what makes a seller dodgy and tommy fits the bill perfectly. Some newer members have dealt with him and claimed no problems but I think he is definitely a "Buyer beware" eBayer.
As for shipping, thats what I think 60%+ do. Thats why I don't deal with eBay much.
Sorry you had a bad experience. I already made up my mind not to deal with him and your post reinforces my decision.
Thanks for alerting us.

You may want to take that pic down, or blur out his address. Not really a good idea to do, even if he is a #$%^. If he happens to see it he might be able to make some trouble.

I just bought this one from him:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=019
It is described as "like new" as well. I take such descriptions of old razors with a grain of salt, to avoid disappointment. It's a nice razor, but I would not describe it in the same glowing terms he did.
I do think it's bad business to charge $8 for shipping, then put the razor in a padded envelope and hope it doesn't get smashed to bits in a mailbag.

JScott, please don't misunderstand. I am not saying you didn't get screwed or you don't have a reason to complain. I am only saying that you should take steps to correct the situation first and then if it proves out your initial thoughts then by all means complain away, in fact shout it from the rooftops so everyone knows and will be careful!

Thanks for the heads up. Seems like a few
people who've been around a while had problems.
The method of shipping alone raises concern.

Thats the bad thing about not selling/buying in person. I look at it like the whole "shave-ready" deal that gets talked about quite a bit here and over at B&B. Everyone's idea of "shave-ready" is different as is everyone's opinion of an item for sale. I've never had dealings with tommyrazor but I know that The Topher (Chris) has bought many a razor just recently from him. He had nothing but good things to say about tommyrazor and - if I remember correctly - so did Lynn, who posted in one of Chris's threads about those purchases. I've had many dealings with Chris and would stand behind anything he says, and Lynn's reputation proceeds him of course. I'd hesitate before posting a thread like this if I hadn't taken up my concerns with the seller/buyer first.
The razor cuts both ways.
My 2 cents....Last edited by crichton; 02-01-2008 at 11:45 PM.
