Ebay find.
Being new to SR's I have been browsing Ebay like a mad man and have come across what I think is a truly rare razor. A NOS Filarmonica with all original packaging.
Enjoy!

I think for the last year there have been a few of them every week, so I wouldn't call it 'rare'.

Thanked: 1903It never ceases to amaze me how the razor market develops. These razors have been around, in abundance, for many years. Only after some very favourable reviews have they come into fashion. Seems like Filarmonicas have taken the place of W&B meat choppers, both in terms of price, and level of hype.
Don't get me wrong, that is a very nice razor, but it certainly is not rare, not even in mint condition. Still very nice though, if you like the scale design.Last edited by BeBerlin; 01-25-2010 at 08:45 AM.

Yeah and the ones with the rubber over the tang are later production if I am not mistaken. I don't know if that means anything but the vintage lightly used pieces I have are all tang stamped without the rubber and are real good shavers. Glad I got 'em before the Filly bubble came to be.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Besides the rubber tang thingy, one other difference seems to be the EPBD label. From what others have written, it sounds like the EPBD either refers to the grind OR the tempering process OR the steel OR pure marketing b.s. Take your pick.
Personally, I'd love to try a #14 sometime just to see how it compares to some of the workhorse blades that I use (including a #13), but I agree that we seem to be in a Filly #14 bubble, so I'm just sticking to the more down-to-earth brands for now.
Still, it is good to see that there are enough people interested in SR shaving to keep prices for these razors going up (even if they are unjustified). In the larger sense, it means that companies like Hart Steel and others can make an actual profit selling straight razors to people switching to this way of shaving, which is to everyone's benefit here, I think.

It's only rare if you can get it under 250

That's very true. That vendor Tanowa has been selling them for a while. She's not in spain, I think Argentina. The razors she sells are excellent. They are shave ready out of the box and shave like a dream. Yes, my bank account is glad I don't deal with Ebay. I have my Fily's. They are excellent shavers, Really....I came out of the Hospital with 3 days growth on my face. I used a EPBD 14, and it went through my beard like a hot knife through butter..

Thanked: 1936If you are a noob, PLEASE stay away from ebay. You would be much safer buying from the classifieds here, or place a "want to buy" after you have done your research on what blade you would like. You could get several good shavers for that Filly you posted the link to that is at $250 at this time.
