Are young people into straight razor shaving?
Hello there everyone, I was wondering if straight razor shaving infected any other young guys like me (I'm 21).
I wanted to start shaving with a straight razor since I was 18. I'm asking this because generally I see in the
posts guys saying they have kids, that they got a straight razor for their 50th birthday. I have been shaving since I
was 16 and it had been a terrible experience until I got my first Dovo. I nicked myself a lot with cartrige disposable
razors and it used to ruin my face.
I mean, wet shaving should be a lot more out there so youger generations could enjoy their shaves instead of getting
red face and irritation due the use of cartrige razors.
So what do you guys think?

I do believe there may be some people on this site younger than you. I started with a straight when i was about 25 (32 now).

Bill,
I agree 100% that we should get the word out there. I think, generally speaking (at least it was true for me at 21), the hobby is a little cost-prohibitive for the 18-22 crowd and is something you need a lot of patience for. Something I didn't learn until after college.
I was 24 when I picked up my first straight, and I was so impatient and inexperienced that I butchered my face severely before finally slowing down, joining this fine group of gentlemen, and learning how to enjoy the hobby. I don't have kids, but my oldest nephew will be 13 this year, and I will be living close to him again by the time he starts really needing to learn to shave. He will most certainly have a full wet-shaving kit and the knowledge to use it by the time he graduates high school.

Thanked: 177If they learned straights at a young age it would be much easier as shaving was easy for me until my late 20s when the whiskers start getting stiffer.Im 48 and I didnt start til I was 37, couldnt get 2 shaves out of a cart. Bought a shavwtte fromy barber and some blades havemt looked back. Used shavettenfprn7, de for 1 and straights only for a little over a year. As far as cost goes, its alot cheaper than an I phone or tablet. You can get in for 100 if you get a vintage whipped dog or classifed here. Barbers hone pasted strop and leather strop.

I had to stay with friends for a short span,
their son took to straight shaving right away,
he is 17 and now set up with brush (home made best badger TGN knot), strop (Illinois #127), and a Freemont 5/8.
He loves it and joined here under the name AlfaWolf (although not to active).
He has a few friends that are now interested in trying it.
Many of my acquaintances think it is cool but there is no real interest from them to try.
I think the exposure at a slightly younger age garners more interest although it may just be from the cool factor.
My friends son has now been straight shaving exclusively for almost three months so there are some,
I just wish I had started earlier in my career...It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

I have two sons, 15 and 12. For the most part, facial hair is still more of a fuzz for them. My 15 year old thinks Dad is nuts to shave with a SR. I then show them the end result of a close shave and they seem impressed. Who knows, my collection may one day belong to them or their children.

I started at 15, I am now 18.
I think Parkerskouson is a little younger than me but I haven't seen him around the forum in a while.

I'm 35, so while I think I'm young you might not agree. And compared to some of the ...erm...more venerable gentlemen here, I am. LOL
But I agree, wet shaving does need to get more "out there" to the younger set. It frustrates me to see some teen or twenty-something complaining about irritation...as he buys the latest "MOAR BLADEZ!!!1!1!!!" offering. My local mall has an AoS shop that seems to get some of the younger folk in now and then so maybe that's a start.
