I think you will find we have members or all ages well represented on the site.
Besides you're only as old as you feel.

A few thoughts come to mind.
1. Growing old is not for the faint of heart.
2. I've asked my 16 yr old if he'd like to learn and you'd think I'd just asked him to stand on his head.
3. I tried str8 razor shaving at 23 and my girlfriend at the time didn't like the chunks of meat hanging from my face - so I stopped.
4. Tried it again at 49 or so (56 now) and by that point got it right.
5. Seems there's new young blood (sometimes literally) getting accounts here all the time.

I Plan on gifting a couple of razors this year to my 15 and 16 year old brothers for their birthdays I'm very excited to see if they take to it. Think they'll be receiving Dovo shavette's and Vanderhagen starter set with badger brush to get their feet wet before i spend the big bucks on them. hopeful

When I started shaving in the early 80's there was no internet to research topics like this...forget about a forum...that was a gentleman's magazine!! I was a lemming and did what everyone else did...I used a DR which irritated my skin to no end, so bad that I actually got a fungal infection on my neck!! I tried using an electric shaver...which was worse...nobody suggested I try to use a SR. Now I'm 46 and I just stated using a SR (2 days ago) and even though I'm just shaving my sideburns at this point I can tell a big difference... a lot less skin irritation than my 5 bladed skin scraper I was using!!
Will my son, who is 12 take up a SR ? If he could shave himself I would highly suggest it....However, since he was born with cerebral palsy which effect his gross and fine motor skills....he wont be able to shave himself. I'm hoping I can get good enough with a SR in the next couple of years, so I can give him a real shave and have more "guy" time with him!! Who knows maybe I can mentor some of his buddies too!

There are a few members who joined in the last few months under 25. Young people generally have money to blow but wouldnt even know a straight razor exists let alone the patience to learn. They don't care about cost of disposable as long as its quick and easy. I had an Sr at about 20 but couldnt get it sharp and although I wanted to use it sat in a draw for years with the odd go to get it shaving. Took till 33 and fed up with irritation to finally get me using that razor when I searched the net and found this site.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

bombay, I was wondering all along while reading this thread if I was going to have to bring it to your attention. You are being a wag as usual. Did you forget how I describe myself?
I am an 80 year old with the mentality of a 17 year old and the sex drive of a 95 year old."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."
