Thanked: 0The Art of Shaving -Black Wood Grenadille - Purchase Top Quality Straight Razors
So what is the difference with this one? Is it so expensive because.... it's fancy wood? Dovo(?)
Any input on The Art of Shaving: Your Online Source for Quality Shaving Products
*Does the logo wear off? Their logo on the blade is not all that appealing to me.
*the art of shaving, that is. A nice brand looks good, but "the art of shaving" seems tacky.

Stick with the straight razor designs , art of shaving may not send it shave ready, plus the redone certificate will come in handy, the Ralf Aust is a fine razor so stick with that and get it ordered , no need to make it difficult , heck if it's not what he wants I,m sure they would trade it in, , if you want to make it a little more special, add in a couple of nice soaps or brush. Good luck. Tc

The logo stays on the blade.
That one costs more because of the gold on the spine and because it says "Art of Shaving" on it. Not only do they "tacky" up the blade, but they charge you more to make it look "tacky". It will only have the factory edge on it and will need a professional honing after it is purchased. Otherwise, it is a good Dovo razor. Thanked: 0Ha. Thanks. I was trying to decipher all of this on my own, which was way more difficult than I even thought possible. I'm gonna order the Ralf Aust. Now I just need recommendations for what to buy with it. I want to put together a sort of kit for him. I'll look around on the SRD site and see what I can find for "extras."

There is also a classified section on the forum that is worth checking out:

But, like other folks said, SRD and the Ralf Aust are both solid. I bought my fist straight from their store front in Medina Ohio. Check out their straight razor and strop sets or straight razor wet shaving kits. I bought my first Straight with a 3" Latigo strop in a kit. Saved me some money and I really like the strop.
