Thanked: 44I would rather the 944's and the bengall go to a noob but depending on how the brushes work out with the kit we might be able to sell them but I would need to talk to Jim and Lynn. They will be a basic brush though not some super fancy one. They are meant for newbs to get started. If you want the whole kit then I suppose I shouldn't stop you but it is meant for new guys and I will still offer my non newby stuff regularly. If you want a 944 Jim carries them in 3 colors as they are custom made for him.

Thanked: 44Update:
I just spoke to Tony and he says he can get 4 newby strops out to me for next week and he is going to make one special for SRP in some way. We will have to see. Awesome Jim and Tony.

Now that sounds like a deal. I have just gone back to using a straight blade after 15 years. I have my honing mojo going again, my $11 eBay KeenKutter will pop a hair in half, but my old Horsehide stop has seen better days and need some soap/brush/etc. The choices on the internet are dizzying and I don’t know where to start or what to get. A kit would be a wonderful way to get off on the right foot. I know it is a newbie kit, but for us old newbie’s that have a blade or two, an accessory kit sans the straight would be good. A starter kit with blade optional?

Thanked: 44Maybe as things get going I will be able to have options but for now to keep things simple I will be doing the kits as is. Look at it this way, you can get a nice razor.

You can never have too many razors, can you? I feel the cash draining from my wallet…

Thanked: 44No you can't. I have recieved a number of questions about preordering and giving advanced notice for the kits. I would be happy to take orders for kits once it settles down to the normal brush as razors. For the first 4 kits I am doing them in style and will be losing money on every kit because I plan on excelent razors and the brush is hand made for Jim and more expensive and bigger than what the other one will be. As a result I don't think it is fair to now offer them first come first serve or to show favoritism to anyone. They will be offered in the BST forum when they are ready to be sold and I will give a fairly good idea within an hour or two of when they will be listed on this thread. Then I will list them and may the best man win. But don't worry too much there will be more kits just not deluxe for the price of regular.
I am also thinking of offereing deluxe kits in the $250-300 range with an heirloom, this same brush, razors like the bengal, more soap, and maybe a scuttle or something if I the price can fit it. If this is something you would be interested in. This way you wouldn't need to upgrade anything when you become more experienced. Not that you need to upgrade the kit but most people decide to go for nicer stuff later and this would give the nice stuff now. So if that is something you would want then post here too and I will see if I can make those occasionally.

I am looking forward to the opportunity. The wife still thinks it is a ‘phase’. I told her I needed to get a brush, soap, another strop etc… She was not overly excited, but at least this is less noticeable than a 150 pound two group espresso machine in the kitchen.
