My first razor was a gift from my girlfriend ( Dovo 5/8 Best Quality ) . After reading thru this site ( and others ) I realized that it wasn't shave ready. So, I bought a shave ready Wapi and that started my RAD . Now I currently own 8 razors with # 9 on it's way and no signs of slowing down ! I know I don't need that many razors but for some reason am powerless to stop the addiction . Oh well, if you can't beat it might as well feed it !!!

Ah, well. Think of it as preservation. Fact is, if you want get your RAD into high gear, there are ancient Roman specimens out there that were last shaved with two thousand years ago. They really DO exist.

(How do I know? "I'm Bob and I have RAD." "Hi, Bob!")

Seriously, don't do that. But there is, indeed, ancient razor porn. Shoot! There are stone tools that have been unearthed that may have been razors.

The only reason what's on ebay (caveat shavor) is because people in previous generations thought well enough OF us to want to make sure things stayed around FOR us.

I think we owe that to folks a hundred years from now, as well.

This ain't no hobby. This is cultural preservation.

    GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY!

This thread made me go and count, and now I'm scared!

I started off with one single razor. An old George Butler. I have had this for about 15 years, but was not a serious shaver either. In the last few months, I have gotten serious, and it looks like so has my RAD!

Umm, how many licks does it take again Lynn?

    Ahhh one....Ahh twoooo.....aahhhummmm thirty five

Oh crap, wait, that doesnt include the 7 day boker set

nuts, or my 5 blade shaving rotation... I think I have more on the way too.

Thank all thats holy I dont have a wife. She would have killed me by now!

I think I had better start honing, shaving, and parting out! trade in all these cheapies for some good stuff. =D

I agree with Zacsdaddy. It's good to try out all the different styles before you get "hooked" on one, if budget/finance affords.

I wanted to experiment with different blade sizes (5/8" vs 7/8"), different points (round vs spike) and the "No maintenance" option

My first straight razor order consisted of a Dovo 5/8" stainless, a TI 7/8" spike point, and a feather Artist Club RX. It was an expensive first order but I wanted to try out multiple razors before settling on "the one".

I've learned a lot with each one:

    - Spike point is tricky
    - I don't like a 7/8" size/weight in my hand. I find it too hard to maneuver
    - you can cut yourself really badly with a feather (or any razor for that matter)
    - When i first started with a straight it wasn't a hobby to me so the feather was great no maintenance option and became my daily shaver for about a year.

I may even sell my TI 7/8" as I haven't used it in well over a year.

14 and counting for me, and I've only been shaving with a straight for 2 months. SWMBO is starting to growl...

    Cheers,

    Default RAD Doesn't Exist!!

Well, I guess its my turn to prove I don't have RAD. My collection I currently shave with consist of 17:

3 John Williams Damascus Sheffield, Bengall, a Hibbard, Spenser, Bartlett & Co. 'OVB', 2 Frederick Reynolds, Wade & Butcher 'Special', Joseph Allen & Sons, Dubbers, J. A. Henckels, Gray Dudley, Genco 'Gold Seal', Imperial, Sanssouci, J. Wiss & Sons and a Gold Dollar 108.

Razors that need work/restored that may eventually end up for sell is 8:

2 Double Arrows, Gold Dollar 108, Wade & Butcher Chopper, Rodgers, No Name Wedge, Slater Bros. (I may keep) and a Jim Slick.

Then there are the DEs, all Gillette, I don't shave with 11:

Trac II, Open Comb, Super Adjustable, Slim Adjustable, 3 Fat Boys, 3 Red Tips (2 for sell), Lady Gillette (for sell)

That's 36 total, a reasonable number. So, that should prove I don't have RAD; I don't really, honest, I'm not kidding, I wouldn't lie to you, seriously, I'm stronger than that, I don't have it, I swear it!
