Thanked: 6If you dont count weepers or the parker shavette the wife got me, looked like tried kiss a running weed wacker the first time used it, I've cut myself shaving with a straight twice in 3 yrs. Thats if you dont count taking a little chunk out of ear when I was getting ready to clean up after a interesting haircut from a poor excuse of a barber.

This topic made me realize there is a difference between nicks and cuts. Now that I understand that difference I can honestly say that I have never had a cut from straight shaving, only nicks so far.
Some shavings are nick free, some shavings not. If things go wrong I usually end up with two nicks.
Nicks do disappear rapidly when using alum so it is no big deal getting one. Although my intention is going for the perfect shave.

Thanked: 67In 17 shaves, I've cut myself four times. Two were during one shave, because I was a bit jittery after the first cut and did it again straight away. The third was when I moved my jaw a bit during a pass - bad idea. Fourth was a tiny cut to the neck because I was trying a different angle below the jaw, not realising that there was some neck in the way of the point of the razor. Nothing serious, all were less than an inch long and barely broke the skin. Styptic stopped the bleeding immediately.
I still usually get a nick or two, just where I pass over a roughness in the skin, but these stop quickly without any need for styptic. I've managed one shave where I didn't even get a nick, and I was pretty pleased with that.

Thanked: 11Once in the 3 weeks to a month I've been str8 shaving. Tiny nick, barely bled, didn't even require the styptic. Now that I've said that I'll probably slice myself good.

Thanked: 1I will say this, at least a nick or cut from a straight, hurts allot less than razor burns or cuts from a disposable. I dreaded shaving with a disposable, razor burn was a daily occurrence.

I've only given myself one noticeable cut really, which was on my cheek when I moved my head a little as I put the razor down on my skin. I was going pretty quickly (guess I got a little overconfident) and took a little chunk of cheek out, maybe a cm long but only a mm or so wide. Didn't even hurt, but there I was with some pinking lather
Apart from that in the 6 months I've been straight shaving I've only given myself a handful of nicks, so I'll consider myself relatively lucky.

Thanked: 485Maybe three or four nicks since I started in June last year. At times there's blood in the shaving cream, but often I can't even identify where it came from; so I guess one would call them weepers. I second the comment JimmyHAD made about holding the razor lightly. I use a REALLY light grip, just two fingers when doing an ATG pass. This way, if the razor digs in (due to the cream being too dry, for instance) the razor pivots in my hand and doesn't dig into my skin.
