Do you think I could get away with flat angle? Of maybe like 5-10 degrees? But yea, I will most definitely keep you posted. If I get it tomorrow, there will be pics for sure!

You don't want to go completely flat, you do need to touch the edge to your face, you know ;-)

I keep trying to tell Joel, my son, he should learn now, so when he actually NEEDS to shave it's easier. God willing you have many years to get it right; take your time, be careful and safe; and develop the art; for it truly is an art. It's very meditative, yet simple. Yet complex and difficult.

When Christopher Moss in 'The Art of The Straight Razor Shave' talked of taking pride in doing a difficult job really, really well, he wasn't overemphasising the thing.

When you stand in front of the mirror, and wipe your face on the bath towel, after placing the razor to one side, you WILL feel a true sense of pride and 'true blue' manliness, really...
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

And just an aside, when I first posted this thread, I was only explecting like 5-10 replies just pointing me in the correct direction. I would have never imagined a 100+ post thread and a vintage razor heading my way, all within two weeks. I really can't thank all of you guys enough. It really does mean a lot. (No, am I not trying to close the thread, just showing my appreciation)

I don't mean for you to try shave completely with a flat angle. I just meant to start that way and increase the angle to, as suggested, maybe 10 to 15 degrees. Starting close to flat and working up you're much less likely to cut yourself. Most of the bad cuts and nicks are a result of bad technique and a steep angle. You'll have to experiment!! But, I guarantee that too steep of an angle will give you one of those "battle scars"!!

Yeah. We get a bit obsessive. You'll get like that. One day, months or years from now; you'll be at a BBQ. Someone will say "I've got some nice home made traditional apple sauce here". You'll say "Oh, that's nice, I like traditional things". Then you'll hear yourself say, "Actually, I even like shaving in a more traditional way; did I ever tell you about my straight razor collection?...I shave with a straight razor, you know, yes, let me tell you all about it..."

And then I will breed a brand new generation of straight razor shavers And that would be really cool!
