Oh boy am I gonna be careful! I'll bet my first shave(my cheeks) will take about 30 min. Anyways, when I get into the swing of things, should I strop before, after, or before and after I shave? I have heard mixed replies from various information sources.

For some reason, my head has always turned away from the "in the now" stuff, and has always taken an interest in life in a more simple way. I think this will be a great way to start on that goal!

Parker:
I usually strop both before and after I shave. Stropping after the shave is not completely necessary, but stropping before is absolutely essential. Hope this helps!

Thanks maple. I think ill do before and after for now so I learn faster cause Ill be doing it more.

Stropping after is not absolutely essential for the shave, but it will go a long way to keeping your razors edge rust free,as it will aid in the drying process when it's all said and done.

Remember, regardless of if you strop before and/or after (I do 30/70 before, 10/10 after (linen/leather) one of the WORSE things you can do is loose concentration while stropping and 'roll' the edge. Start with fewer strokes, but make them good strokes. I tend to lose concentration after 70.

It'll be interesting to hear how you go on the first shave. Remember REALLY light strokes, and resist the temptation to do too much the first time. You could probably really stay away from your neck for now; maybe you haven't go a lot of hair there anyway.

I will not go anywhere near my neck until I'm completely comfortable with the razor. Don't want more cuts than necessary!

Parker, don't forget what Shooter said. Don't strop it before your first shave. It's coming shave ready. If you try to strop it and your technique is lacking you'll ruin the edge and then you won't know what a shave ready razor is like. Good luck!!
