Thanked: 0I've not purchased a straight from Whipped Dog, but really want to chime in because the silvertip badger brush that I got from him is very good and most reasonable.
Cheers

Can anyone tell me the difference between the regular sight unseen and the flawed sight unseen?

Quoted from their webpage:
Description for sight unseen flawed:
"These razors are fully functioning straight razors, fully as functional as more expensive razors sold here. However, they have flaws that don't affect the shave, but do require a discounted price. Flaws can include such things as scratched or warped scales, hone wear, and rust spots above the cutting edge."

Part of the experience of using a vintage razor, for me, is the flaws. They tell the story of where its been. As long as it shaves well, you'll love it. And later on you can buy prettier razors... I'm currently purchasing from Larry and his customer service is great.

Thanked: 2I can say Larry is a great guy! When I first started he even met with me to assist me with my stropping technique and has sharpened my razors for me. Trying to ween myself away from that now that I bought my own hones. But always a sharp razor and a great guy to deal with!

Thanked: 60Great guy and great service.
Originally I ordered a sight unseen razor and the poor mans strop set. The razor was great, not the prettiest but functional and sharp. The poor mans strop is great especially as I cut chunks out of mine within days and I'm sure glad I didn't start with an expensive razor or strop. I haven't cut it for a while and am still using it at the moment until I'm sure I won't. The info he sends via email with your order is fantastic, in it he also describes (as well as other methods) continually honing your razor with a barbers hone.
I since ordered a 12K barbers hone and a blue pottery shaving mug and matching silver tip badger brush, both are stunning and fantastic to use daily (the mug his made by his friend "The Firehouse Potter").
All the advice he gave and the cheap start he provided let me discover the art of straight shaving without spending a fortune. I now continually hone and love my super sharp razor, and also love my new brush and mug. Im a committed straight shaver because of Larry at Whipped Dog, you see I could not justify the cost of starting with everything new due to cost. Larry's low cost start will let you try the art without braking the bank. Give it a go, you have nothing to lose….
Quality tools, Quality Advice, Quality Gent…. What more can I say?

I ordered a Silvertip badger brush from Larry. It is my first and only brush that I have so I don't have much to compare it to but I couldn't be happier. You won't find a better price and it feels amazing on my face. It shipped pretty quick too. I would recommend ordering from whippeddog

I am also considering buying the more expensive sight unseen from whipped dog. It looks to be a good deal it's just something is holding me back. Anyone know how long shipping takes on average?

Thanked: 1Hey. I have been doing some research because I wanted to give my boyfriend the ability to learn this art for his birthday (after he mentioned wanting to start using a straight razor). I was referred to whippeddog.com and couldn't have made a better choice. I spoke to Larry and he outfitted me with everything I needed keeping it within my budget. He was so helpful and I believe I got the best stuff for the least money and got some necessary education as well. I know the $25 razors you mentioned I think and I wouldn't have any problem buying one. The only reason I spent the extra money was because it was a gift but I believe the only difference is cosmetic. I am going to give him this gift tomorrow so I don't have any feedback about it yet but I was just thoroughly impressed with Larry and the site and I highly recommend his service and products.
