Some of you mentioned the hot water heated bowl type that Chris designed so I tried hot water in the silver mug and then put in the ceramic liner. What a difference. Nice hot lather for the second pass. Great stuff.

I just picked up a hand-thrown creamic bowl at a local craft fair; it whips up a great lather.

Since the bowl is hand-thrown it has ridges or rings around the insde that were formed as the potter pulled the bowl into shape with his/her fingers. This results in good brush action as I swirl the brush. Before this, I had tried a smooth stainless steel bowl. I recommend a hand-thrown bowl for the undulating inner surface.

    Default The Moss Scuttle

    Check out the Moss Scuttle!

If you want one (and I get no benefit from this), you can order them "factory" direct:

Same price for small or large, but I do want to warn you...the shipping is pricey. About $25 bucks, but it comes packed like nobody's business.

I've only used mine a couple of times, but let me tell you...hot lather for every pass, and I do mean hot!

Is that the small or the large, I've heard that the large are a little to big.

    Ray,

Both are in the pic. The large has the brush in it. I have the large, and have a bit of trouble working the lather in it. Based on my experience, I would not order the smaller one.

I like the wooden bowls mostly...simply because they look nice. And they're not too pricey...haven't tried a mug though.

I normally use a stainless steel mixing bowl. Fits in the palm of my hand, and I can turn it sideways and run hot water over the bottom to heat the lather. However, the scuttle sure does introduce a new option.

Guys I have been a happy scuttle user from the beginning. I love it I got mine from Classicshaving. It is the following.

Rich...why is it that more often than not, after I read your posts I want to buy something???

I like that first scuttle a lot! I never really understood the concept behind a scuttle until I read the informative description on classics website. that is a really cool diea and I may have to give it a try.

My wife says the same thing and then goes shopping. Damm I have to learn to shut my mouth.

I liked the first one too. It will be something I can hand down to my son someday. Let me tell you the lather is pipping hot when you put it on your face.
