    Default Shaving Bowls

ok, who else out there prefers bowls to mugs? I do prefer bowls. I currently have a wood bowl with lid. I am looking for a porcelain bowl that will hold about a 90g soap. Does anyone have good links to shops that carry procelain ones?

I'm a mug man myself. Don't care much for the bowls as they just seem a bit extravagent to me. Besides, I can easily get 5 or 6 mugs at Goodwill for the price of one bowl + shipping online. From what I understand, the bowls just barely hold the soap and you end up with a lot of lather slopping over the sides. Having said that, I do like the look of the wooden bowls from classicshaving.

I like mugs myself, especially for soaps. I find that with bowls and soap, the soap slides around too much. I have 4 of the short Old Spice mugs that I got off eBay that work great with my soaps. The only bowl I uses is a small wood bowl that I use for creams.

I like bowls too. I use a pewter one from classic, but those big Cappuccino bowl/cups are great too. the thing about mugs is that the thick ones do retain some heat for the second lather, but I put my pewter bowl in a hot water bath to get the same effect. I use mostly creams btw.

Check out the Moss Scuttle designed by Chris Moss. This is the beastmaster "bowl" of lather. Fill it up with hot water, and your lather sits in an inner bowl, hot and refreshing!

RT, i like the look of that moss scuttle. The bowls i found its easier, for me, to get the brush into and work a lather up. I found with the mugs i was banging the sides all around and in the morning it was clakity, clack clack clack

I have always used a mug for my soaps. Now that I'm trying a few creams I went and dug up a bowl. I think the bowl works better with the creams and the mugs with the soaps in my limited experience.

I'm using more creams now so bowls it is. I just grabbed a silver plated cup with Royal Dalton liner, polished up it's awesome.
Pic shows un-polished and the bowl is now pristine white.

I prefer a bowl as well. I bought some
small stainless mixing bowls. They were
$1.00 each. For me its just easier than
    a mug.

I don't know about the differentiation between mugs and bowls. I've seen big mugs and small mugs and big bowls and small bowls. It don't make no difference to me as long as it has a cover on it. If you use soaps with scents and don't have a cover the scents evaporate over time.

Prpbably my favorite is a porcelin bowl I got from shavemac, nice and big.
