Was just running through the math Andrew. Basically $170 cdn for the shavemac, vs $25 for the VS.
Before import duty and such on the shavemac which the VS did not incur, so really add 25% to the shavemac as well.

To quote myself, the difference I liken to Johnny walker red, vs blue.

I tryed to convince you Phrank, that beautiful handle needed to go dressed up in a class Badger. But cudos for giving it a whirl. , Mike the other offspring are looking great, VS or Shavemac they will be fine. As for me, I,m a Shavemac fan now. Tc

7 times the price is a substantial difference.
The big question is, is it justified?

Tony, like all things in this life, not just shaving, it's relative. Do we need a 300$ brush? Do we need a 2000$ bike, a 30k motorcycle a 60k truck or 350k house? You see where i,m going? A high end brush or knot adds luxury and density to the equation my friend. So is it worth it? I have quite a few brushes and the one thing I have found is yes the extra money is very much worth it. Now I have also said you can get a very good brush for less, the Virginia Sheng knots that Mike got are very good for the money. Value for the dollar. Have no problem with the, but the Shavemac knotis far and away a higher quality knot.
Do any of us need all the crap we have? No, but if you can afford it, why not? My opinion only. Tc

Knew you were right Tc, noo doot aboot it....but was very reasonable to give her a go, figure it's good to maintain my facade of being, what do they say, "open minded"?

So this time I'm going with you, Shavemac knot it will be.....

Mike did such a stellar job on the Rubberset, and the very cool stand that goes with it, holds the unique size and shape of this brush perfectly, that there was no way I was going to let it sit on a shelf and not get some mileage out of it.

I don't necessarily think it's a question of affordability but rather more of a question of diminishing returns.

Both you and Phrank answered, that yes, it is well worth the additional costs.

Great job B52! I had seen this before but I'm bad about getting sidetracked. I happened to come & make this post & leave a few thanks while I remembered to.

NOTE: Damn keyboard going out on this thing & when I try to capitalize letters or make this "&", it turns out to be a 7 sometimes!

The Rubberset Shavemac with the D01 knot is the closest I can say to basically an Morris & Forndran Blonde Badger, at least compared to the L7 I have. Has the great scritch I'm looking for, stellar backbone, just a pleasure to use and was worth every penny. I've got a lot of brushes, Rooney, Plisson HMW, Simpson, they all used to sit in various rotations in my bathroom just to keep changing things up. Now, the M&F and Rubberset with the Shavemac knot sit with an occasional other to change things up - cleaned, dried and packed a lot of my other brushes up now and stored them for another time.

If we're going to talk value, I'd get a custom made handle and one of these Shavemac D01 knots or better (think there's a D02), and be done with it, for me, shaving brush Nirvana would settled.

    Hope this helps....
