Thanked: 2284You buy the cheapest ones, which I think can be had for $14-$19 Canadian, and then just rip em apart. Check a guy out on Amazon named Wish4Blades.

Thanked: 4206Giving it a go in some synthetic materials this week.
Hope to have this one done for St Patrick's shave this weekend.
With some turning speed adjustments as suggested by Andrew I was able to get this one turned without grenading happily, so now I need to work on a few others in a softer wearstrip materials from work that are a pure white color. They might look perfect with new boar knots in em.
Have a few 2 band knots on order now as well to try.
Just want to revisit the jig idea again. Think I can tighten up the design while I decide on buying that spindex unit..
Cheers."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 1184Not to throw a detour in your thinking but what about a router hooked up on your lathe ? Tons of ways to go about it from home made jigs to to expensive attachments. I have always wanted on for turning table legs.

Thanked: 250If it was me Mike I would go with a good boar knot. Every badger I've bought, the infernal things were knotted with the fur from under the tail.

Thanked: 4206I was thinking of the lathe, and a jig as well pup, but couldn't find a 7/8th round nose router bit so went the way of a proper end mill. I have a cross slide vise at home and am still kicking around other ideas. Hands down that spindle indexer Benz mentioned, or something like it with an adjustable jaw chuck would be the ultimate solution.
Regarding the knots, with how many of these I've made now, I will be getting both styles boar and badger to try em both.."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 4206Thanks FAL Appreciate the feedback.
Cleaned up the wood ones a bit more and also turned a few more test pieces, one in nylon, and the other, bright white one in a very slick material we use to make high wearing bearings and bushings out of at work called PEEK..
Wasn't too impressed with the nylon, kind of drab yellowy looking stuff, but I like the Peek. Feels a little heavier than wood but not too heavy..and waterproof, low friction and good to 450 degrees for those that like a really hot lather.."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."
