There's a much bigger picture than what the article paints. He hasn't even considered environmental possibilities at all.

Thanked: 1160Oz...you saw the big picture here as this has nothing to do really with guns or social/political issues or child raising or even sexual tolerences. It was about maturity vs. adolescent behavoir. Thinking like a man as opposed to thinking like and adolescent. Nothing more nothing less. I am now done here. Have a good night and a good shave.

"When I became a man, I put away childish things"
I will limit my comments to respond to the article and not the legal and moral aspects, but I would just say that the above quote also includes playing superhero. Whether or not he acted in self defense, (and whether or not he is actually guilty of murder) Zimmerman's biggest mistake was acting like a child, and that has nothing to do with whether he was raised by a strong male role model or a single mother.Last edited by RMarsh; 07-14-2013 at 09:06 AM.

However, what the article claims, and I think your implication as well, is that somehow in previous generations people were more mature than in the current one. The problem is not the claim but the complete lack of valid arguments to support it.
My parents and grandparents didn't grow up in america, but I have been living here for a while and I have seen more than enough middle age and old americans who act like teenagers (and a very big number of them on this forum, usually the very ones who pose as 'macho'). And I have read plenty of american literature to know that this was the case hundred or hundred and fifty years ago as well. Just as it has been the case thousands of years ago in the countries that existed back then.
So, yes, a very crappy article.

Nightblade, say what you will but you come off as patronizing and condescending. I do not think anyone made any comments that would be considered tantrum like. The article makes erroneous statements based on few facts. That is poor journalism and poor science.

Mephisto, I don't believe nightblade was accusing anyone here of throwing a tantie, rather that a persons reaction to situations will either be mature and considered or immature and reactionary, I think it is unfair to say the comments were condescending maybe misunderstsandable but not condescending.
If you are refering to the longer post this is just a personal viewpoint that you can agree with or not, there is nothing in the post telling you how to live your life, or even suggesting its nightblades way or the highway.
This is just my take, not an argunment pick.

I understand what you are saying but his comments were grating. Anyway, whatever, the big picture is, well, this does not matter. Live. Love. Have fun.
