I think what is missing in the melting pot theory is nothing is melting. IF those who came here learned to speak the language and took to the laws and culture of this country thing would melt together as they have and should for many years. What is missing is a law that would shut up those who perpetuate racism and laws against freedom for their own perception of freedom. We have laws that are not enforced like car insurance for example. But some(and I won't point fingers) don't believe this is necessary and it cuts down on the amount of money they can ship out of the country so that more can run the border. We perpetuate or own doom by allowing this because we are promoting segregation. We preach against it but do everything we can to actually promote it. The people I hear complain about this the most are those who actually go through the process of becoming legal citizens and who do adapt to the original spirit of being an American. This is sort of a racial thing only because of the lack of prosperity in other countries. And we ,out of the kindness of our hearts don't shoot when they cross the border. We don't force them back, or jail them. We feed them , pay then to have babies, let them flood our emergency rooms in hospitals because they don't believe in buying anything they can get for free. Why are the like this? Look where they come from. Some don't even know how to use a toilet for havens sake. They just use the paper and throw it on the floor. There are 5 houses on my street that have 3 to 4 families living in a single dwelling house. 10 new cars and pick-ups in the driveway that seem to never move. Not like they are going to work everyday. This could anger me but hey, I can't blame them. The dumb working class in this country has allowed it to happen. It will lead to trouble someday and it may get real ugly. It may not but I only see groups angry at other groups and I don't see any common sense solutions on the horizon.

Yes natural born white Americans are as much a part of the problem because they let things get this way. In fact all legal voting age Americans are part of the problem. And I can't speak for the rest of them but this 1 world economy thing isn't working out so well for us. This being nice and generous is costing us everything we have worked for. This helping the world be a better place is not working at all. We have depleted our check books and credit cards on a national level and it's crunch time. And we know it would be best for us to slam the door cut out the funds and fix our own problems which we could probably do in a year. But no, this would cause to many problems for others so it just won't happen. For awhile anyway. :<0)

I think you are wrong 10pups, as it is there shouldn't be that much melting as let's see
Mexicans and Hispanics in general are some denomination of Christianity
    So religion checked
US cultural influence has made the other countries aware and appreciative of it
    Culture checked
And if I concentrate on what I am and know (Mexicans)
    Cowboys, well we invented that
Hunting, the ones that do it are pretty good at it too
Drugs well Americans love it, Mexican cartels provide it
American population loves Mickey d's well there is this illegal working for minimum wage do you can get that crap
Mexicans love guns well nothing but the best military grade does for Mexico's La familia.
Americans have country music and Mexicans have norteņas
You guys don't usually like darker people neither do Mexicans.
I guess the mutual fear comes from people that think Mexicans are going to reclaim what Mexicans think was stolen from them (BOTH SIDES ARE COMPLETELY WRONG)

Now let me tell you what I think is the problem, but first let me tell you about this Catholic chief whose name was Agustine. When the Romans stayed accusing the Christians for Rome's downfall, he basically stayed that it was the Romans who were at fault for not staying loyal to their own principles. Now that same thing has happened to the U.S. There was a time when marriage meant something more enduring, lasting and the foundation of the most basic of society's institutions; when being a convict was something to be ashamed, not proud; when complying with the rules was encouraged; when drug use was thought to be the root of all evil. Today is not the past and now drug use is not only justified by medicine, but encouraged as a leisure activity, divorce rates are higher than 60%, tv shows that tell us prison is cool (and morons that buy into it)
I am going to stop here as I do recognized that America is a great nation or was but when you are at the top the only way is down.

I think we agree more than you realize my friend. But you are taking the negative outlook on things. Christianity was brought to Mexico by the Spanish who pretty much concurred the native populations there.
Other countries see the prosperity here and wish to emulate it for sure. Who wouldn't ?
All people hunt and fish as this is as old as the human race.
Most Cowboys in the US were black. And if Mexico invented chasing cows on horseback, great idea.
Most drugs consumed in this country are by minorities and the young. They are also the majority in jail, which I'm told is because I am prejudice and pick on them.
The wrong people have all the guns in Mexico. So much for that way of doing things.
Mom may be working at Md's but son is going to college and won't touch anything that has to do with using his hands. He is not fond of speaking Spanish and only does it at home or to communicate with someone who only speaks Spanish. He is melting. Mom can't and it is not worth it for her to do so.
And God bless the young because they don't give a darn about any of this.

(BOTH SIDES ARE COMPLETELY WRONG) I laugh at this discussion and you are 100% right.

And here you are totally wrong. "You guys don't usually like darker people neither do Mexicans." EXCUSE ME ? This kind of thinking is only part of the problem. I do not follow this line of thinking and wish not to be grouped into it. Just saying :<0)

Yes morality is at an all time low. The reasons you point at are correct. In my post I was trying to say that our country rewards the immoral and that is were we as working Americans should be taking the blame for allowing it. After all, we are supposed to be the ones in control of our country.

The U.S. is not great right now. Going backwards yes, going down no. IF it does a lot of the world will be in pain.
Here is another commentator you may enjoy hearing. This was 48 years ago. Did he somehow know? Naaa he just saw then what was coming just like many today can see what may be ahead. If I Were the Devil by PAUL HARVEY

Now there's the rub and that is what qualifies as a good deed. To me it is a given that no country acts without self interest in mind and that is all well and good if both parties to the generous act benefit. To me that means the populations of both countries benefit not just a select few. That is not always the case but you can't win them being only human.

In my 31 years (just because I'm young doesn't mean I don't have insight) I've held many different views on how the world at large works. Some of those views I still believe in, but most of them have changed with age, and especially after becoming a father.

As I see it, the largest problem with this country is the people's complacency with being told how they will live and their general laziness to break that cycle. It's like a train wreck for them... they see how horrible things are becoming, but just can't look away in spite of themselves.

What the hell ever happened to personal responsibility? What the hell ever happened to being an individual, self sufficient enough to run your daily life without a government, boss, manager, councilman/councilwoman, teacher, spouse etc. telling you what to do and how to do it? Are we sheep? Children? Invalids?

The bottom line is we are responsible for US, and anyone who is as fed up as I am should be taking action, not sitting idly by and watching as our nation falls to ruin.

We have politicians, on both sides of the aisle, who do nothing to look out for our best interest. Jesus, take Common Core for example... It serves no purpose but lining wallets. No testing. No studies. No results. Just released to "market" and forced on the American people. What major corporation would release a product without vigorous testing and research first?

And what happens when people speak out against it? They're arrested, like the gentleman in MD.

If we're so sick of how things are going, change it. By force, if necessary (though hopefully not). But the first thing to do is get off our lazy asses.

In the words of Howard Beale: I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth. Banks are going bust. Shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be.
We know things are bad — worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is: 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.'
Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get MAD! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot — I don't want you to write to your congressman, because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad. [shouting] You've got to say: 'I'm a human being, god-dammit! My life has value!'
So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell: I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!
I want you to get up right now. Sit up. Go to your windows. Open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!...You've got to say, I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE! Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first, get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!

One thing I have discovered so far in my life is that if you want something done you usually have to get up and do it. Yelling or talking doesn't really work, although it can maybe fire you or others up initially. But yeah, things get done by people doing them.

One of the things I have also noticed is that as time goes on we become more and more reliant on government for everything - if our town gets flooded and we didn't take out insurance, the govt will bail us out. People got a government handout here quite recently because the power went off for two days.

Most of us are cattle feeding from the government trough. Which is exactly how they want it of course, because it is easier to control a herd than it is to control an individual. We are slaves to capitalism and it is only getting worse.

But there's two sides to that equation - Government is of the people for the people, so if our society has become this way it is only because we the people have let it become this way. You cannot avoid that basic fact in a democracy.

So if you want a different world, get up and do something about it.

While some may disagree relationships end when the pain of maintaining becomes greater than the pain required to change the relationship. We are reaching a tipping point in the American political structure. The folks are soon to recover the political delegation of representative power. Change occurs when one is sick and tired of being sick and tired.
