I worked for a major financial corporation for 27 years doing IT (UNIX/Linux system admin) and they decided 3 years ago to outsource us to a Euro company who uses workers in India. We were already whittled down from 50+ workers to about 20 at that point and all of us were "re-badged" to the new company keeping our pay and service time. Their plan was to have us all train the off-shore staff over the next year, then lay us all off, but the business screamed long and loud about the service level of the off-shore guys and threatened breach of contract lawsuits. In the end, they kept 4 of us to handle projects and escalations from the off-shore staff. It totally sucks, but at least I'm still working.

Funny thing is that I now have 30 years service in for a company that has only been in existence for about 12 years.

I worked in a print shop for over seven years running a very high volume printer. Through out the years, the business was not Profiting and the company was constantly downsizing. My ex-manager called me in her office one day and assured me I had nothing to worry about, and that the only way I'd go is if the company closed its doors for good. A few months later, my manager calls me in her office and tells me we are outsourcing your positions............the company that they outsourced my position to was the very same company we leased the Printer from!

I got a poster and $136 (after taxes) for my 20 years of service. Did you get anything "special" too?
